Thanks for the replies. I'm with you on the keyboard and tabbing between fields. If I'm using the mouse, I'm probably doing something wrong. I have trouble getting new users to put down the mouse though. This could eliminate an annoyance that affects new users. When learning a new software, every little reason not too adopt can make a difference. E.g. I won't go back to another stress program which lacks keyboard commands because I get annoyed at how slow the going is. So, I can empathize with people converting the other way expecting to be able to type into a field and then watching the computer parse the string into machine format. I think it would be simple to look at the input and delete the preceding blank spaces if the user wrote 20 characters as opposed to the 16 allowed. Expanding the field would also help us keyboard users when we need to go -10'-11 15/16". Inputting this in my usual format of -15-11-15/16 exceeds the character limit. It seems like a perfectly valid and reasonable entry to me though.
