Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE, Version(s): V8i (09.06.00.15 and higher) Environment: N/A Area: Licensing Subarea: Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Problem: A user would like to deploy AutoPIPE v09.06.00.19 to our users. When AutoPIPE launches the users have the option to select the type of license they would like to use. We would like for this to default to Standard in stead of Advanced. We would also like to turn off that prompt from appearing for users. Answer: Bentley apologize for the inconvenience, however AutoPIPE does not have a feature to restrict people from choosing a radio button in front of the types of program editions AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.xx and higher: select File> License Configuration> AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.00.xx and lower: select Tools> Settings> Edition> refer to image below, pink shaded areas: After AutoPIPE is closed the next time the application starts it automatically uses the exact same license settings as was set before the application was closed. User's do have the ability to review these settings each time the program starts by checking ON the "Show Welcome Screen on Startup" option in the lower left corner of the dialog. That way when the application starts the user can chose which edition and add on feature should be enabled for the current session. The only way to limit a users ability to use a specific version of AutoPIPE (Standard, Advanced, Nuclear) and Add-on features (KHK and/or Stress ISO) is to remove the license from the list of authorized application licenses visible in the License Management Tool (LMT) AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.xx and Higher: select File> License Management Tool> AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.00.xx and Lower : select Tool> Setting> License Management Tool> License Checkout Tab: Again, only those licenses viewed in this listing are available to the user. Therefore, if the user tries to select an option in the program that does not coincide with this list of licenses, the program will revert to DEMO mode for that license option. Example, user starts AutoPIPE and the "Welcome to AutoPIPE Licensing" screen is displayed. The person selects the radio buttons for "Advanced", checks ON the option for "KHK 2 Add-on", and presses the "OK" button to start using the application (see image below, left). The program will only be licensed to use AutoPIPE "Advanced" and NOT "KHK 2 Add-on", as it is not listed in LMT (see image above). When the user re-opens the "Welcome to Licensing" dialog screen, the "Advanced radio button is still highlighted, but the "KHK 2 Add-on" option would be unchecked (see image blow, right). Again the user is only able to use license that are available in LMT. So the question still remains, how to restrict access to a version of AutoPIPE if all the license are shown on the License Management Tool? Answer, someone with Select Server access can setup custom activation groups. Utilizing a Custom Activation Group allows for the sub-division of your site’s license pool for distribution to various designated groups while also allowing for usage tracking. In addition, you can limit the software that is part of each custom activation group. People that are part of a specific activation group will have a specific Site Activation key that is entered into the License Management Tool. Again, this will limit their exposure to license able to be used by Bentley software (i.e. AutoPIPE) Click this hyperlink here for more information about and instructions on how to create Custom Activation Groups. Additional Comments Questions and Answers: Q1. Does Activation groups restrict different team members to specific editions of the software? Answer: No. When a person belongs to a custom activation group they are given a specific Site Activation Key by your company appointed Bentley On-site administrator. They are in charge of the people who belong to a specific group and the software license available for usage by that specific group. Therefore, all the people in that group have access to only those license available to that group.
