Forum Post: RE: displacement stress range

Hello rkp, Load cases selected to evaluate stresses in AutoPIPE code compliance are selected based on the governing rules of ASME B31. These codes define the sustained stress equation due to sustained loads, such as pressure(P1) and weight(GR) (ref. B31.3 section 320.2) and displacement stresses due to the highest temperature or thermal case (T1) (ref. B31.3 section 319.2.3). In AutoPIPE, the category selected in the Load Combinations dialog for each code combination determines which equation from the B31 standards are used. The individual load case moments (e.g. GR, T1, P1, etc.) are then combined using the selected combination method (e.g. sum) , then applied to the equation to produce a stress. Best Josh Taylor
