Solution: Over the past 5 years or so, Bentley’s IEG products (STAAD, RAM, ProStructures, AutoPIPE , SACS, Maxsurf, Multiframe and RM Bridge) have used an IEG licensing layer to manage SELECT license usage. This layer checked out and checked in licenses with each use of the software and while it would allow limited over-usage, it would not allow program usage if the number of licenses checked out at one time exceeded the number of licenses owned by a user. Starting with AutoPIPE V8i 9.6 and higher will support trust licensing. Trust Licensing – what is it? Trust Based Licensing is a benefit of our SELECT Program. To help avoid project disruptions, SELECT Server offers Trust Licensing to Bentley Users. This eliminates time wasted on entering a purchasing cycle for software when licenses are not immediately accessible. As a result, accounts have the freedom and flexibility to use the software they need, when and where they need it, along with license-usage insight to make informed decisions regarding the accounts organizational needs. Key Points about Trust Base licensing: No real time reporting SELECT Benefit Grants ALL users access Usage posted daily Full functioning 30 day Disconnected Mode Software will disable after 30 days Usage reports updated daily Trust Based Licensing grants all users access to their client software regardless of the number of available licenses. Note there are a few exceptions to this such as AutoPIPE V8i 9.5 and lower will still require an available license and the extra Bentley IEG software installed. Again, only New trust licensed versions (AutoPIPE V8i 9.6 and higher) will only be available to new users and users with a current SELECT agreement. If they have such access, they will be able to download as usual from SELECTservices. When downloading trust licensed versions of the IEG applications, there will no longer be a dependent Bentley IEG License Service file to download or install. ***IMPORTANT *** One of the common misconceptions about trust licensing is that it is based on the number of licenses in concurrent use. This is incorrect, it is based on peak usage which is subtly different. For non-ELS users, peak usage is the maximum number of unique machines using a license within a 1 hour period. This means for example that if a user on machine A uses SACS between 10:15 and 10:30 and a user on machine B uses SACS between 10:40 and 10:55, then a license peak of 2 will be reported. This is consistent with the terms of their SELECT contract and with all other Bentley products. Note that usage will only be recorded per machine, so multiple usages per machine for the same application in any given hour will report a single usage, whereas multiple usages for the same application on a different machine, will report multiple usages. There is a good explanation of peak usage in the SELECTserver help system listed below. Usage Logs are stored on the client machine, and when the machine connects to the server each day, the logs are posted to the SELECTserver. If a connection to the SELECTserver is not successful, logs will remain on the client machine and it will try again the next day. This will continue for up to 30 days. We call this “Disconnected Mode.” Disconnected Mode allows full functioning access to client software as long as the client machine has connected to the server within 30 days. During that 30 days, the client machine will try to send logs every 24 hours and the countdown will decrease by 1 each day. If it cannot successfully send logs before 30 days, the program will shutdown and re-activation will be required. In addition, AutoPIPE Nozzle will be downloaded and installed with AutoPIPE. Also, AutoPIPE Nozzle will not require a separate license so long as an AutoPIPE Advanced / Nuclear license available for checkout or AutoPIPE Advanced / Nuclear is already running with a valid license on the same computer. Most of AutoPIPE Nozzle users still utilize AutoPIPE Nozzle application released separately from AutoPIPE, such as AutoPIPE Nozzle ver.08.11.07.19 or older. How will the be activated with it. A1. Trust licensing will only be supported on the new version of the programs: AutoPIPE V8i 9.6 and higher along with AutoPIPE Nozzle 8.12 and higher. Otherwise the user will still need to install both the older programs in addition to installing Bentley IEG security layer to correctly license these older versions. Also, there must be an available license for the application before it can be used. users are encouraged to upgrade to avoid problems since AutoPIPE Nozzle licenses will be removed eventually from contracts at renewal time. Keep In mind that AutoPIPE Nozzle will be downloaded and installed with AutoPIPE. However, these applications can be run independent of each other. The only link between these applications is a command when executed in AutoPIPE will export a file, automatically starts the AutoPIPE Nozzle program, and opens the import dialog screen. You can still just use AutoPIPE Nozzle without opening AutoPIPE, but you must install both programs together. There will not be a separate download for AutoPIPE Nozzle v8.12 and higher. Again, as long as there is an available AutoPIPE Advanced / Nuclear license currently in use on the same computer or in the license pool, AutoPIPE Nozzle is free to be used without subtracting a license from the available pool or adding a count on your usage report. Q2. There were [AutoPIPE plus"(Product ID: 1054)] license and [AutoPIPE Nozzle(Product ID:1899)] license separately before. As these have different Product IDs, Colleague A can use AutoPIPE plus on his machine and Colleague B can use AutoPIPE Nozzle on her machine at the same time in the same account site. Now [AutoPIPE plus] and [AutoPIPE Nozzle] has been integrated and changed to [AutoPIPE Advanced] and users have only [AutoPIPE Advanced] license. By this situation, is it possible Colleague A can use AutoPIPE plus on his machine and Colleague B can use AutoPIPE Nozzle on her machine at the same time, if the site has only 1 x [AutoPIPE Advanced] license? A2. My understanding is that so long as there is an AutoPIPE Advanced / Nuclear license available for check out in the license pool or AutoPIPE Advanced / Nuclear is currently in use on the same computer, AutoPIPE Nozzle will be fully functional. Otherwise the program will revert to demo mode without a valid checked out license or node lock license. Therefore in your case described above, user #2 will not be able to start AutoPIPE Nozzle because User #1 already has the license checked out to their computer. Again, AutoPIPE Nozzle checks for available license in pool or currently running AutoPIPE on the same computer. If either of these conditions are TRUE, AutoPIPE Nozzle will be fully functional. However, if USER #2 opens and started AutoPIPE Nozzle before USER #1 started AutoPIPE Advanced / Nuclear, then Yes both people should be able to use the applications on a single license. Q3. I head that IEG products such as AutoPIPE will be Trust Licensing soon. Will only new released IEG product versions in the future be Trust Licensing? Or will all IEG product versions be Trust Licensing that have been released in the past? A3. Yes, trust licensing is only support on AutoPIPE V8i 9.6 and higher Or AutoPIPE Nozzle 8.12 and higher.
