Forum Post: RE: Modeling Guide Support Interconnected Vertical Support

You could just model a V-stop and connect it to the piping node directly under it, which you will need to input.  this would force the support and the piping above it to move by how ever much the main line piping is moving.   Your other option is to model a small plate member from the connection on the launcher to the main line.  I would recommend that you calculate the rigidity of that plate prior to putting into the model.  Otherwise it assumes it is rigid and it will give you issues.   Lastly, since this is a pig launcher and will be dead 99.9% of the time, you can just model a tie-link between the two lines and be done with it.  the area of concern is the wye.  The support location shouldn't be an issue.  there will be some differential therm expansion, but not to the extent that it will be of major concern.  the thinner the plate, the less the differential thermal expansion.
