After you specify the soil parameters, press the Generate button, the Virtual Anchor Length button is enable d for the user to select it. Selecting the buton opens another dialog screen where you enter more data used to calculate the "La" (Virtual Anchor length. Press OK button performs the calculations. With this information, you would go back into your model and insert an anchor at a distance greater than or equal to the length calculated.
Note, virtual anchor length (La ) is an estimate to determined where a point of zero relative pipe-soil strain can be established. At any distance beyond this point (zone 3), the model can be physically terminated without any loss of accuracy to the analyzed results. Depending on the overall configuration of the piping system and the type of analysis to be performed, the inclusion of a longer virtual anchor into Zone 3 in the system model may or may not be necessary.
