Question #1:

What is the procedure to rotate all or a potion of an AutoPIPE model?

Answer #1:

1. Part or all of a model can be rotated about a pivot point. Selected range of component to be rotated at a specified angle using the Edit> Rotate command. The procedure below describes the process of rotating a selected set of points.

____a. Select the range of components which you would like to rotate.

____b. Select Edit/Rotate.

____c. AutoPIPE prompts for the base point on the selection set. The base point is the point about which the selection set will be rotated. Either select this point from the model by clicking on it (the default is the the first point of the selection set), or manually input it in the "Select Base point" field, then press OK.

____d. The Rotate dialog is displayed.

____e. Specify a rotation angle in the X,Y, and/or Z offset fields as desired, Note that you are not restricted to rotating the selection set along a single axis.

____f. Press OK to apply the rotation values.

Question #2

What, if any, are known issues or limitations with rotating piping?

Answer #2:

AutoPIPE rotates the piping geometry correctly. However, it does not rotate the component's directional settings.

Example, an anchor is attached to a pipe that is on the X-axis with flexible stiffnesses and thermal anchor movement specified; Trans Stiff = Dx = 1000 ib/in, and thermal anchor movement T1, Dx = 2.5 inches. The segment is selected and rotated on the horizontal plane 90 deg using the Edit > Rotate command. The anchor is graphically shown correctly on the end of the segment now rotated to the Z-axis, but the anchor's trans stiff and thermal anchor movement are still the same; Dx = 1000 in/lb & Dx= 2.5 inches, respectively. Again, the directional data is Not updated with the piping component.

Components affected:
____a. supports
____b. anchors
____c. Concentrated Force
____d. Impose Support Displacement
____e. Distributed Load

Anything that requires a direction input
