Forum Post: RE: Ground elevation for wind
Hello Vishal, To answer your questions: Q.1) how to decide reference point to calculate "ground elevation for wind"? Answer: see "Item #5: How is the ground elevation determined for a Wind load case?" on wiki here . Q.2) What is the unit for "ground elevation for wind"? Actually "(mm)" is written in front of this, but nothing appears in RHS bottom unit space. And as per one of the post from "Mr.Seth Guthrie" it is by default feet even for metric units for '09.xx.xx.xx' version. Answer: see "Wind" known defects and enhancements WIKI here . Press F3 on any point Observe that the Point Properties window only show ZL and ZC weld factors but not the "Long weld E fact” and “Long weld WL fac” weld factors. 5. Take out the Pipe data listing report Observe that the values for E and W are both displayed as 1.0 Note that the header labels for B31.1 (2014) edition for pipe data listing would also need to be updated. The display of weld factors on the F3 window would also need to be done for B31.3 (2004 and later editions) also. Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 328325: Model Consistency check - add warning when Beam Properties Modulus = 0.00 Corrected Version: 10.01.00.05 Enhancement 305976: Add color plot for Line Number Description: Add color plot for Line Number Corrected Version: TBD Workaround: Select the Segment tab on the Input grids, double click the mouse on the Line Number column heading to reorder the column in sequential order increasing, or double click the column heading again to reorder the column in sequential order decreasing: Highlight a given set of rows that have the same line number (ex. Or select a line number by using Select> Line number command Defect 262858: Incorrect SAM results for skewed inclined supports Description: SAM results for supports skewed off of the global axis may not be consistent with supports on the global axis, although the local axes relative to pipes are the same. Avoidance: Align all piping nodes containing supports to the global axis using Edit > Rotate, then run SAM analysis. Corrected Version: Estimated AutoPIPE CONNECT Update 2 Enhancement 262256: Report Max (+ & -) of the Global forces and moments about anchor points Description: When modeling : Anchor-Pipe-Anchor-Pipe-Anchor. Running a static seismic cancels the moments on the mid-anchor because of its symmetry. A designer who is not attentive may only use the M = 0 from the "Restraint Reaction" page, and not think of checking the moment from the "Global" page. It is more difficult to catch of course if the model is not symmetrical, and prints the difference of element moments from each side instead of the sum. Suggest reporting the Max (+ & -) of the Global forces and moments about anchor points Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 239855: Generate detailed hanger listing report in excel to help purchase and installation of pipe support Description: Generate detailed hanger listing report in excel to help purchase and installation of pipe support. This report to list following attributes per support Corrected Version: 11.00.00.22 Enhancement 237988: Report calculated hydrotest pressure in model input listing Description : Users should be able to view the hydrotest pressure for the model easily for checking of the model purposes. Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 218330: Add Center of Gravity Offsets for Manual Valve Actuators Description: Currently, regardless of the offsets of the manual valve actuator, AutoPIPE considers the center of gravity to be at the valve mid-point. Corrected Version: TBD Defect 181952: Tees with different material across tee legs may report inconsistent allowable values Description: Inconsistent allowable values may be reported for a tee that has different pipe materials across different legs. This applies to ASME NB and JSME Class2 Piping codes, where tee moment summation is applied for calculating stress values for the tee component. Based on the arrangement of the pipe materials for different tee legs, the allowable stress value for certain tee legs may be reported higher than the actual allowable value for that leg’s material which may lead to un-conservative results. To illustrate the defect the following scenario can be considered: Step 1: Create a new class 1 model with Edition set as 2007 Step 2: Create a pipe ID M_HIGH, with 12” nominal diameter and material selected as SA106C Step 3: When prompted for Design Pres & Temp, enter Design Temperature as 200 deg F Step 4: Insert an anchor in the model at A00 and invoke Tee Point dialog (Insert > Tee) Step 5: On the Tee Point dialog, enter 10 feet in DX direction, select “Pipe data identifier” as M_HIGH, “Tee component” as Tee, “From point orientation” as 1-Header and Type of tee as Welding and press OK Step 6: Click on the small blue arrow at point A01 pointing in the same direction as the header and invoke “Insert > Run” Step 7: On the Run Point dialog, enter length as +10 in the DX direction with Pipe data identifier selected as M_HIGH and press OK Step 8: Now select the last remaining arrow pointing perpendicular to the Tee header and invoke “Insert > Run” Step 9: On the Run Point dialog, enter length as 10 feet, enter 10 feet in the DZ direction and overwrite Pipe data identifier with M_LOW and press OK Step 10: On the Pipe Properties dialog that appears, enter 12” nominal diameter and select material as SA106A Step 11: Analyze the model and take out Preliminary Stress report for the model A value of 34,950 psi (1.5*Sm = 1.5*23,300) is reported as Equation 9 Allowable for both the header and branch of tee point A01. Notice that the lower value of Design Sm of 16,000 (resulting in 1.5*Sm = 24,000) for Pipe ID M_LOW having pipe material SA106A is not taken into consideration when calculating the allowable value. For JSME PPC piping code, this issue is only observed when the tee header is constructed of two different materials having different hot allowable Sh values i.e. two different materials used along the two legs of the header pipe. The following considerations are provided to assist in your evaluation of the potential impact of this defect on the results: 1. Evaluate whether this defect has affected any existing models by considering the criteria below: a. Was the model created in program version 9.1.0 or later? b. Was the piping code for the model set to any one of the following two piping codes? i. ASME NB Nuclear “1974 + 1975 W addenda” edition or later ii. JSME S NC1 Class 2-PPC 2005 edition or later c. Was there a tee in the model having different material used along different tee legs? A 'No' to one or more of the above criteria means that this defect does not affect the model’s results. No further consideration for this model is necessary. 2. Otherwise, the following mitigating conditions should be considered: a. For JSME piping code, this defect is only observed is there is a change in material along the tee header. Having different material for Tee Header and Branch of the tee component reports correct allowable values. b. For JSME piping code, this issue is not observed if the “Apply tee summation” result model option is unchecked c. For ASME NB piping code, if there is no change in material along the tee header then the allowable values are always calculated based on the tee header material Important Note: ASME NB code does not clearly define whether the allowable value for a tee component shall be calculated using the minimum Stress intensity and yield strength from Header and Branch of a tee. However, response from ASME to an interpretation request from AutoPIPE team tends to suggest that the conservative approach of taking the minimum stress intensity / yield strength from the Tee header and branch is allowed / favored by the committee. Please see the response from the ASME committee to the question below: Question: If a branch connection is constructed of different material specification for Run and Branch does the code prohibit using the most limiting allowable stress intensity value for equation 9 and equation 10? Answer: No Avoidance: Manually enter the most conservative Hot Allowable value for affected tee component legs under Pres/Temp/PipeID tab of Review Component Data grid. Corrected Version: 09.06.02.06 Enhancement 148629: Report Viewer to be the active Window when opened Description: After creating an output report the active window should become the Report Viewer instead of the program window. Steps to repeat: 1. With any model opened, create an output report 2. After the Report Viewer is automatically display, use the mouse wheel or press the keyboard PgDN Key / Cntl+ Print. The program Window reacts, sending the Report Viewer Window to the background behind the program window. Request that the Report Viewer window become the active window when opened Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 138437: Tracker#: 10355 Add option to print stress/ratio plot for non-code combination Description: Add option to print stress/ratio plot for non-code combinations that are evaluated between calculated stress and new column for user allowable. Corrected version: TBD Enhancement 136055: Tracker#: 8732 Add total length of pipe to Extended Component Data Listing report Description: Add feature to display total pipe length for each PIPE ID and grand total pipe length data at the end of the Extended Data Listing report Workaround: Insert Fluid transient flow path along pipe length to be measured, one the THL file is created review report looking for "TOTAL WAVE TRAVEL LENGTH (L)". Perform as needed for each measured length required. Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 134372: Tracker#: 7986 Add option to display weight of highlighted selection: Description: AutoPIPE currently provides the Weight of Empty Pipes, Weight of Contents, and Total Weight of System per model in the model listing output report. An enhancement request has been made to provide the same information per user selection of piping in the current model.Client suggested it would be useful to have this feature as a measuring tool (similar to the distance command). Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 130548: Add option to view beam displacements in results grids. Description: Add option to view beam displacements in results grids. This could be very useful when working with civil structure departments in reporting thermal displacements. Reporting pipe displacements is excessive and leads to overdesigning of support structures and foundations. Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 108571: Add option to envelope loads for supports at the same node point or beam Description : See Forum Post by Ross Sinclair on Thu, Jun 12 2014 12:43 AM Corrected Version: TBD Enhancement 72841: Include an ability to model local membrane effects using shell elements for pipe supports Corrected Version : TBD : Enhancement 102687: Tracker#: 992 Display displacements results in the local coordinate system Description: Display displacements in the local coordinate system. Corrected Version : TBD Avoidance: Using the results grids in conjunction with MS Excel it is possible to calculate the global / Local displacement between node points. Wiki Page: 17. What is the difference regarding seismic calculation between SLS (Serviceability Limit State) and ULS (Ultimate Limit State) when using AutoPIPE Vessel?
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Vessel Version(s): ALL Environment: N/A Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version July. 2017 40.03.00.08 Problem: Except for accelerations which are different, what is the difference regarding seismic calculation between SLS (Serviceability Limit State) and ULS (Ultimate Limit State)? Should I input a specific spectrum or a specific vertical acceleration? Solution: Suggest that only the factors to generate the spectra are different between SLS and ULS. Therefore, the accelerations are going to be different, however rest of the seismic calcs are same for RSA RSA=response spectra analysis The reason the factors are different is because of the risk factors used in generating spectra risk factor is a derivative of return period and % of probable occurrence like 7% PE in 100 years or 10% in 200 years etc. " See Also General Modeling questions Bentley LEARN Server

Forum Post: RE: Different seismic coefficient for different segments
Hello Mangesh, Please see AutoPIPE help for "Point/Member Static Earthquake Scale Factor": (Click on image above to make larger) To answer your questions above: Q!. How to input different seismic coefficient for different segments of system in one autopipe file? Answer: Insert your Static Seismic loads (Eq1, E2, E3..)as required in your mode. Then Insert "Point/Member Static Earthquake Scale Factor" for node points that require localized scaling of the static seismic loads in the piping model Q2. By template under Loads/Static Earth quake or Insert / Xtra data /Member static earthquake factor or point static earth factor? Answer: I think that you are asking if you should use Member or Point command. See help section above to answer this question. Q3. The values in Loads/ Static earth quake are getting applied same through out the system. (E1, E2,E3,E4 etc..) Answer: Correct, the same Point / Member factors will be applied all Static Seismic load case. Q4. How to use insert /Xtra data ?Does the XYZ factor have any relation with E1, E2, E3, E4 etc? Answer: Yes, the relation is that the Point / Member factor direction is multiplied by the respective Static Seismic direction. Example for each node point with a Member / Point factor: Static seismic = E1 X(g)=1, Y(g)=2, Z(g)=3 Member / Point factor = X:4, Y:5, Z:6 Results: Seismic load E1 X(g)=1x4 Y(g)=2x5 Z(g)=3x6 total E1 X(g)=4 Y(g)=10 Z(g)=18 Regards, Mike Dattilio Bentley Product Advantage Group Analyst AutoPIPE Product Line Bentley Systems, Inc. =================================================== AutoPIPE On-Demand Training – CLICK HERE YouTube - Bentley Pipe Stress - Subscribe Linked IN – CLICK HERE ===================================================

Wiki Page: 01. Stress isometric drawing are blank or not created when using AutoPIPE Advanced or Nuclear versions, why?
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL Environment: N/A Area: Stress Isometric Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version June 2015 09.06.02.06 Problem: Stress isometric drawing are blank or not created when using AutoPIPE Advanced or Nuclear versions, why? Solution: There could be a number of reasons why this would happen, check the following: Reason #1: There is no piping in the model that was saved as a Stress Isometric. AutoPIPE only creates isometrics based on piping components in the model. Beams are not exported to a Stress Isometric. Reason #2: The wrong version of AutoPIPE is being used. Only AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.02.xx and higher has the Stress Isometric feature incorporated into the application and does not require any additional licenses. However, only by using an AutoPIPE Advance or AutoPIPE Nuclear Edition enabled version of the program can a Stress Isometric be created: The following must be set correctly: Reason #3: There is no piping range selected before starting the Save Stress Isometric command. On the Stress isometric dialog is a setting "Use Selected Range", if this option is enabled and NO highlighted selection has been made in the model than the program will produce a blank drawing. Workaround: a. Make a selection set in the model, and enable this option or b. Disable this feature to export the entire model to a Stress Isometric. Note: If table are missing be sure that the Data Tables option is also checked on this dialog. Reason #4: Path name may be too long (max = 256, including the path + model name + extension) or may contain non-ASCII characters in its name. Try this: 1. Create a new folder on the desktop that uses only typical ASCII character in the filepath. 2. Copy model to folder and try to create a stress iso from this new folder location Reason #5: Save Stress Isometric hangs if executed for model on a network path. This was only an issue with AutoPIPE v.9.3 and lower and has since then been fixed. However to rule out network location and data traffic. Try this: 1. Create a new folder on the desktop that uses only typical ASCII character in the filepath. 2. Copy model to folder and try to create a stress iso from this new folder location Reason #6: Unknown Reasons, f or some unknown reason the program is not creating a Stress Isometric. Try this: Following would be an order of investigating this problem 1. Open the directory "C:\ ProgramData\ Bentley\AutoPIPE CONNECT\ isoextractor\ projects\ project01\ stress\ dgn" Note: path may be slightly different for other editions, but try and find the DGN folder. 2. Delete all files from DGN folder location (these are temporary files and do not affect the program behavior) 3. Arrange program windows to view both this Folder location above and use AutoPIPE at the same time 4. In AutoPIPE, launch the stress isometric process from File->Save Stress Isometric command. After starting this process watch the folder, In a moment one should see files temporarily appear and then disappear. a. Did any file appear and disappear in this folder? If Yes, great!! that is what is suppose to happen, check the AutoPIPE model folder location for new drawing files. If No, go to step b below. b. Refresh the folder, are there any file(s) currently in the folder? if Yes, If there are drawing files in this folder some errors have occurred in the model which leads to incorrect naming of files, a wrongly named file may stay in the folder mentioned above and will not be copied back to the model directory. These files in this folder can be opened and checked by an isometric viewer. Regardless, please see steps below to send all files for review. If No, i. Check in the model directory if modelname . PCF file is generated, send file for review II. Check in the model directory if modelname . APISO file is generated, send file for review. Please see the following WIKI page here with instructions to create a AutoPIPE archive APC file, create an Bentley Service Request (SR), attach a ZIP file containing an APC file and other requested files mentioned above, and send for review. Only after receiving this all this information can an investigation be started. See Also Customize AutoPIPE Stress Isometric drawings OpenPlant Isometrics Manager Bentley AutoPIPE

Wiki Page: 12. How to move an AutoPIPE License from one computer to the next?
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Environment: N/A Area: Licensing Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version July. 2017 11.00.00.22 Problem: How to move an AutoPIPE license from one computer to another computer? Solution: There are 3 basic types of users: Non-Select, Select, and ELS. See the respective sections below for information on moving licenses between computers. Non-Select or Node-Lock A Bentley On-Site Admin or Bentley employee had checked out a license for one or more applications against your Bentley SelectSERVER. A license file was sent to the user who then imported it into LMT (License Management Tool). LMT controls what Bentley applications are licensed and for how long. In order to move a license from computer A to computer B as a Non-Select or Node-Lock user: step 1: Computer A must check the license back in. Note: application(s) do not need to be removed from Computer A step 2: Computer B, must download and install AutoPIPE and LMT step 3: Computer B, user must contact Bentley On-Site Admin requesting node-lock license for XXX application(s), also provide Computer B system name. Note: only Bentley On-Site Admin may contact Bentley Licensing group for this information. step 4: This person will then send a new license file for use on a computer who's name was provided in the previous step. This file will not work on any other computer system. step 5: Computer B, import new license file into LMT step 6: Start AutoPIPE and enable edition (Standard, Advanced, Nuclear) mentioned in LMT. Select or ELS Bentley Select and ELS users receive licenses from either a Bentley Hosted ServerSERVER or their own Deployed SelectSERVER. After installing the application and configuring LMT with the correct Server Name and Site Identification Key the application(s) can then be licensed. A Hosted or Deployed SelectSERVER holds a number of license in a pool (ex. 5 AutoPIPE licenses) for use by ny one in a group of people, 100's of users can have the same Server name and Site activation key. Once the contract quantity of license are used, the next user will still be able to get a license, however License usage above contracted numbers will be settled at the end of the month. Bentley On-Site Admins have complete control over what applications are available or restricted to a user through the LMT Site Activation key setting. In order to move a license from computer A to computer B as an Select or ELS user: step 1: Computer A, nothing needs to be done here. step 2: Computer B, must download and install AutoPIPE and LMT. step 3: Computer B, user must contact Bentley On-Site Admin requesting LMT settings that should be used. If you are the Bentley On-Site Admin, contact Bentley Licensing team for SelectSERVER settings. step 4: Start AutoPIPE and enable edition (Standard, Advanced, Nuclear) mentioned in LMT. Wiki Page: 06. Restrict the type of license user can actually use in AutoPIPE
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE, Version(s): V8i v.09.06.00.15 and higher Environment: N/A Area: Licensing Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Problem: A user would like to deploy AutoPIPE v09.06.00.19 to our users. When AutoPIPE launches the users have the option to select the type of license they would like to use. We would like for this to default to Standard in stead of Advanced. We would also like to turn off that prompt from appearing for users. Solution: Bentley apologize for the inconvenience, however AutoPIPE does not have a feature to restrict people from choosing a radio button in front of the types of program editions. R efer to image below, pink shaded areas: AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.xx and higher: select File> License Configuration> AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.00.xx and lower: select Tools> Settings> Edition> After AutoPIPE is closed the next time the application starts it automatically uses the exact same license settings as was set before the application was closed. User's do have the ability to review these settings each time the program starts by checking ON the "Show Welcome Screen on Startup" option in the lower left corner of the dialog. That way when the application starts the user can chose which edition and add on feature should be enabled for the current session. The only way to limit a users ability to use a specific version of AutoPIPE (Standard, Advanced, Nuclear) and Add-on features (KHK and/or Stress ISO) is to remove the license from the list of authorized application licenses visible in the License Management Tool (LMT). Note, this approach does not work for QTL or Open Access contracts. These people have free rain to use any edition and pay for usage at the end of the month. Therefore, they need to vigilant about what edition of the program is actually being used at any time and length of time. AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.xx and Higher: select File> License Management Tool> AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.00.xx and Lower : select Tool> Setting> License Management Tool> License Checkout Tab: Again, only those licenses viewed in this listing are available to the user. Therefore, if the user tries to select an option in the program that does not coincide with this list of licenses, the program will revert to DEMO mode for that license option. Example, user starts AutoPIPE and the "Welcome to AutoPIPE Licensing" screen is displayed. The person selects the radio buttons for "Advanced", checks ON the option for "KHK 2 Add-on", and presses the "OK" button to start using the application (see image below, left). The program will only be licensed to use AutoPIPE "Advanced" and NOT "KHK 2 Add-on", as it is not listed in LMT (see image above). When the user re-opens the "Welcome to Licensing" dialog screen, the "Advanced radio button is still highlighted, but the "KHK 2 Add-on" option would be unchecked (see image blow, right). Again the user is only able to use license that are available in LMT. So the question still remains, how to restrict access to a version of AutoPIPE if all the license are shown on the License Management Tool? Answer: Someone with Select Server access can setup Custom Activation Groups . Utilizing a Custom Activation Group allows for the sub-division of your site’s license pool for distribution to various designated groups while also allowing for usage tracking. In addition, you can limit the software that is part of each Custom Activation Group. People that are part of a specific activation group will have a specific Site Activation key that is entered into the License Management Tool. Again, this will limit their exposure to license able to be used by Bentley software (i.e. AutoPIPE, AutoPIPE Vessel) Click here for more info on Custom Activation groups Click here for How to migrate users to a custom activation group Additional Comments Questions and Answers: Q1. Can I hide / restrict some of the available licenses on my account from user? or Does Activation groups restrict different team members to specific editions of the software? Answer: Yes and No. When a person belongs to a Custom Activation Group they are given a specific Site Activation Key by your company appointed Bentley On-site administrator. They are in charge of the people who belong to a specific group and the software license available for usage by that specific group. Therefore, all the people in that group have access to only those license available to that group. Example: Account has both AutoPIPE Vessel and AutoPIPE Vessel Enterprise licenses on their account. It was determinded at the company that a goup of people should have access to AutoPIPE Vessel and 1 additional code, Pressure Vessel Code European EN 13445). How to set this up? As mentioned only a designated Bentley On-site Administrator can make these changes. Follow the instructions here to create a Custom Activation Group. See Select Server Help, shown below: Once on the Custom Activation Groups SELECTserver help page (image above), scroll down to see a complete set of instructions on how to create Custom Activation Group. Some detailed screen shots from that process are shown below: Send the new Activation key created above to the user and ask that he place it to their LMT, Options> Tool field: The following dialog will appear: The user will now be restricted to using those licenses on the Site activation key / Custom Activation Group.
