Hello Marchie, To differentiate between PULS (acoustic frequency) and AutoPIPE (structural frequency): PULS (Acoustic frequency) - pulsation response to the piping due to reciprocating compressors and pumps as well as flow-generated sources, such as control valves and vortex-generated pulsation at tee junctions. AutoPIPE (Structural frequency) - response of the piping system being analyzed and depend on how the mass and elasticity are distributed throughout. The tendency of the system to vibrate when subjected to dynamic loading. Hi Lone Star Expat, thank you for your question. ASME B31J 2017 provides a more modern approach to calculating stress intensification and flexibility factors (k-factors). From the ASME B31J 2017 standard: "The sustained load test procedure can be used to determine more applicable nominal stress multipliers for use in sustained and occasional ASME B31 analyses[...] This Standard sets forth stress intensification factors, flexibility factors, and engineering procedures deemed appropriate for the safe determination of the fatigue and sustained load capacity of metallic piping components or joints in typical services." AutoPIPE supports the 2017 edition of ASME B31J for ASME B31.1 2012 and later, and ASME B31.3 2012 and later. As of AutoPIPE v11.3, enabling this option in the General Model Options dialog will affect the entire model and all analysis sets in AutoPIPE. We suggest using best engineering judgement on whether or not to use B31J augmented with your preferred metallic piping code.

Solution: These files are related to creating a Stress Isometric using AutoPIPE Advance or Nuclear editions of the program. In the process of creating a Stress isometric the program generates an inline file (*.L00). These files are then used by OPIM's Isoextractor to then generates the actual isometric drawing file. These files can be deleted or removed from the folder after generating the Isometric drawing files. The files are not not required when archiving the model. Hi Efraim, thank you for your question. Currently, the AutoPIPE library build utility does not accept arguments. From what I've investigated on the Microsoft website for VBA development: VBA isn't multi-threaded, so there is no way to provide an input to the build.exe prompt. We are aware of this issue and plan to provide arguments to this application in a future release. Sorry I cannot provide a better answer, but this is a limitation of both build.exe and VBA.

Wiki Page: AutoPIPE known issue - defect 407514

Applies To Product: AutoPIPE First Affected Version: 09.01.00 Found in Version: 10.00.00.10 Fixed and Released in Version: 10.01.00.08 Area: Calculations Severity: Critical Backlog Issue Number: 407514 Problem Description Material properties set for valve or flexible joint are used to calculate allowable stress for pipe that follows Reason Material properties defined for a valve or a flexible joint are incorrectly used to calculate the allowable stress values for pipe connected to the far end of that valve or flexible joint. The calculated allowable stress values using the material defined for the valve/flexible joint may be higher than the actual allowable stress values for the pipe, leading to un-conservative results. This error impacts all editions of ASME NB, NC and ND piping codes. To illustrate the defect the following scenario can be considered: Step 1: Create a new ASME NB model with English units Step 2: Create a new pipe ID STD12P with the following properties: Nominal Diameter: 12.00 in Schedule: STD Pipe Material: SA106-B Step 3: Leave the Pressure at 0.0 and Temperature at 70.0 Step 4: Insert an anchor in the model at A00 and connect a pipe run from A00 to A01 using STD12P Step 5: Connect a valve to the pipe run from A01 to A02 Step 6: Connect a pipe run to the far end of the valve (i.e. from A02 to A03) Step 7: Select the valve from the Valve tab of Review Component Data dialog and invoke "Modify > Pipe properties over range" Step 8: On the Pipe Properties dialog enter the name for the Pipe Identifier as STD12V with the following properties: Nominal Diameter: 12.00 in Schedule: STD Pipe Material: SA106-C Step 9: Analyze the model and take out the Preliminary stress report Note that the allowable values for the pipe at far end of the valve are based on pipe ID STD12V with pipe material as SA106-C which was selected for the valve. To illustrate similar issue using flexible joint by following the steps above, a flexible joint may be inserted instead a valve. The following considerations are provided to assist in your evaluation of the potential impact of this defect on the results: 1. Evaluate whether this defect has affected any existing models by considering the criteria below: a. Was the model created or updated in program version 09.01.00 or later? b. Was the Piping code for model set to any edition of ASME NB, NC or ND? c. Was any of the following two conditions true: i. Was there a valve in the model with different material properties defined for the valve and the pipe connected to the far end of the valve? ii. Was there a flexible joint in the model with different material properties defined for the flexible joint and the pipe connected to the far end of the flexible joint? A 'No' to one or more of the above criteria means that this defect does not affect the model’s results. No further consideration for this model is necessary. Solution: For a pipe connected to the far end of a valve or flexible joint, program should use material properties defined for the pipe to calculate its allowable stress values. Additionally, to assist in the screening of the models created in previous program versions for any potential impact by this defect, the program shall automatically examine the model database after opening the model and generate a report (model name + "_D407514.TXT") listing valve / flexible joint far end points where the Pipe ID for the valve/flexible joint is different than the Pipe ID defined for the pipe connected to the far end of the valve/flexible joint. The program shall display the following confirmation message: “Allowable stress values for a pipe connected to far end of a valve/flexible joint may be incorrectly calculated due to a previous program defect #407514. Would you like to review the evaluation report?”\ The contents of the critical error report shall be similar to the following sample critical error report: Defect #407514 Evaluation Report --------------------------------- Model Name: TEST1 Model Version: 09.06.02.06 Program Version: 10.01.00.03 Report Filename: TEST1_D372995.TXT --------------------------------- Allowable stress values calculated for a pipe connected to far end of a valve/flexible joint with pipe material different than the valve/flexible joint have been revised in this program version to correct defect #407514. Please refer to the published defect report for more details and instructions. To assist in the screening of this model for any potential impact by this defect, program has examined the model’s database and has found that the allowable stress values calculated at the nodes listed below should be re-computed using this program version. After saving this model or running any analysis in this version or later commercial release versions, this screening will no longer be performed. Piping point(s) potentially impacted by this defect: ---------------------------------------------------- Avoidance: None Also See: Critical and High issues released in AutoPIPE CONNECT v.10.01

Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE, Version(s): All Area: warning Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Problem: The following appears when I select a material on the pipe properties dialog screen, how to resolve? --------------------------- Warning --------------------------- W31-86: No allowable stresses are available for the selected material in the material library, program will use existing data. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Solution: As mentioned on the warning message, there is no allowable stresses available for the selected material in the material library, program will use existing data that was preset when the dialog was first opened or uses 0.00. Anotherwords, based on the Tools> Model Options> General> Material Library selection, and Pipe Property> Pipe ID> Pipe Material selection, there is no allowable values available to be used in populating the respective dialog(s) fields. Note: See image above, see that the column "Auto" is grayed out and unchecked. This would be a key indicator that the value in the next field is not a library returned value. Therefore it is the responsibility of the user to validate the value used in the next field. Therefore a warning, W31-86, is displayed for your knowledge and suggestion to make manual adjustments as necessary. A material library is broken up into 2 or more sections, typically Material section and Specification section. The Material selection has general temperature related data (i.e. Theremal Exp, Young's Mod). However the Specification section has detailed temperature related data (i.e. Yield Stress) that includes allowable stress information. Example, standard pipe matrial like carbon steel (CS) would be listed in the Material Section, because there are literally hundreds of different types of carbon steels all with different Allowable values. However a specific code dependent pipe materials like carbon steel ASTM A53-A would be listed in the Specification section of the material library. This material would have documented Allowable values that would be used to populate the various dialog fields required by the program. In the event this warning message W31-86 appears, you have the following options: a. Select a different material that has code allowable data in the material library b. Or, manually enter values for both the Pipe Properties dialog and Operating Press/Temp dialog as required. c.. Or, accept the default values already populating those locations. For added information, please see the following AutoPIPE help section: Help > Contents> Contents Tab> Reference Information> Libraries>: Standard Pipe Materials Code Dependent Pipe Materials See Also "Warnings" Messages Bentley AutoPIPE

Comments, Questions, and Answers about AutoPIPE Libraries: 1. Material Library a. Can I migrate customize library files to newer versions of AutoPIPE? Answer: The CAE development team is always manipulating the program to add new enhancements or fix known issues. As a result there is no way of knowing if any of the library files content / format has been changed / updated from the previous version(s). Therefore as a rule of thumb, never use a library file from one version of AutoPIPE to another. Recommend getting the new library source file and coping the customized information into it. This procedure will ensure that your model is correct for the version of AutoPIPE being used. b. Does AutoPIPE have my material? c.
