PULS will be able to read AutoPIPE models that are saved in NTL (text) format. PULS can import NTL files with version 1.1 or smaller (corresponding to AutoPIPE XM (or 8.9). PULS may be able to NTL files with versions after 1.1 provided that the NTL cards recognized by PULS are not affected. One way to accomplish this using a newer version of AutoPIPE would be to: Save model as v8.9 in new version of AutoPIPE Open model in AutoPIPE v8.9 and generate NTL 1.1 Open NTL in PULS.

Applies To Product(s): PULS Version(s): XM Area: Import and Export Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Item #1: Could you please explain us how the number of nodes is counted in the program?! Answer: Please see the following conversion from AutoPIPE to PULS. Valve: AutoPIPE = 3, Puls =2 Bend: AutoPIPE = 3, Puls =1 Tee: AutoPIPE = 2, Puls =3 When importing AutoPIPE models into PULS, support nodes are removed to allow import of larger models. Maximum number of nodes supported in PULS is limited to 1000 for PULS Option 3 and 400 for other versions. Item 2: The following is displayed when exporting shaking forces: --------------------------- Error --------------------------- Failed to export the shaking force file: Overflow --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Answer: During the creation of the HMF file using File> Export> Shaking Forces, for some models the program may crash if the Analyze> Force direction command shows the AutoPIPE axes to be zero vectors. A new enhancement (CAE-CR-7856) has been added to a check for zero cosines when using File> Export forces. It is unknown what causes 0 direction cosines in some models. Workaround, if direction cosines are zeroes, set them to unit vectors by using "Edit> Shaking Forces". Item #3: The following is displayed when importing a model from AutoPIPE: length does not appear to be correct Failed to open file does not belong in the set of nodes What is the problem and how to avoid / fit? Answer: Open AutoPIPE model, select Tools> Model Consistency check. A report will be generated and displayed on screen. Any and all warnings related to piping geometry must be fixed before exporting to PULS. Example: Therefore, all reducer issues in this example model must be fixed before exporting the file to PULS. The goal is to fixed / reduce the number of warnings in AutoPIPE until the following is displayed when running this command: Item #4: What information is exported from AutoPIPE to PULS: Answer: Please see the following AutoPIPE help section: Help > Contents> Search Tab> enter "PULS" (include the quotes), press List Topics button, double click on the selected topic from the list provided to see more information. AutoPIPE's piping geometry and pipe property information can be exported from AutoPIPE into PULS Item #5: What information is exported from PULS to AutoPIPE: Answer: Please see the following PULS help section: Help > Contents> Search Tab> enter "AutoPIPE" (include the quotes), press List Topics button, double click on the selected topic from the list provided to see more information. The shaking force can be exported from PULS into AutoPIPE. Item #6: How to import / export information from PULS to newer versions of AutoPIPE: Answer: As of Jan 2020, from PULS help information: PULS will be able to read AutoPIPE models that are saved in NTL (text) format. PULS can import NTL files with version 1.1 and lower.... Question : What version of AutoPIPE generates an v.1.1 NTL file? Answer : AutoPIPE 8.9 generates a v1.1 NTL file. See WIKI here for list of NTL versions created by various versions of AutoPIPE. When using a version of AutoPIPE that cannot generate an NTL v1.1 file (ex. 12.02.00.14), use the following procedure: a. Open the model in AutoPIPE v9.0 or higher. b. Save model as v8.9 DAT b. Open model in AutoPIPE v8.9 and save the file as AutoPIPE Batch (*.NTL) which generates the NTL file in the correct version format. c. Open NTL v1.1 or lower in PULS. Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Area: Install Date Logged & Current Version Jan. 2020 12.02.00.14 Problem: Unlike other Bentley installers, AutoPIPE's installation does not indicate creating a Restore Point. Solution: As of AutoPIPE 12.02.00.14 and lower the installer does not automatically create a restore point. If a restore point is critical to the user, they would need to manually create a restore point in Windows before installing AutoPIPE. Suggest to search the internet for instruction on creating a restore point on your operating system. The has been logged (Enhancement 389714) and to be fixed in a future version of the program. Helge, I am not sure how much complicated is your model, but in my opinion, in my case, i.e. reciprocating compressor stations it is usually almost the same time-consuming modelling manually as importing from AutoPIPE. I did some benchmarks and I feel we have more control over model data this way. Piping geometry is only a fraction of time to spend on model preparation. Besides, it is necessary to build separate sections of piping for suction and discharge or interstage. Next - it is necessary to build models of equipment, which is way different from what can be done in AutoPIPE. What do you think about my remarks?

Thanks fro your comments Luke, I was able to export an NTL from Autopipe even with the latest version and the import into PULS also worked. Although, there is a limit of maxim elements that can be translated from NTL into PULS. In the end I had to break my AutoPipe model into compression stages. to get it imported into PULS. Regards,

Hi Maciej, Thank you for your comments. I preferred to build the model in AutoPipe over PULS for two reasons. The latest version of PULS has copy / Past disabled, which is quite frustrating when modelling symmetric components (i.e. Cylinder gas passage or relief lines) I can later use the same AutoPipe model for the mechanical shaking force response analysis. Initially, I was hoping to be able to export the AutoPipe model into a Finite Element Analysis software, but the detail of the export format was not sufficient for FEA. At least I couldn't find the right export format. Unfortunately, the NTL PULS export format from AutoPipe is also of limited quality. It will export only those pipe nodes that change the pipe dimensions or orientation, but not elbow or straight section segment nodes for example. Regards,

Forum Post: VERTICAL PRESSURE VESSEL - ANCHOR CHAIR CALCULATION

Hi All, While running the calculation for vertical pressure vessels supported on skirt, we have encountered an issue related to the top plate thickness of the anchor chair. We are selecting the anchor chair dimensions for a specific company STANDARD , and when checking the results file we discover that the program does not change the thickness of the top plate as required by the calculation. Herebelow the screenshots from the results file: The program has selected a top plate thickness of 16 mm (ea5), while in next page the minimum required thickness is 16.69mm. This issue is not encountered in all the vessels we model. Any help would be appreciated.

Forum Post: RE: How to apply NC-3658 when use Appendix XI to assess the flanges ?

I reviewed ANSI Check and Section III Appendix XI in Autopipe Help. I don't see the effective flange pressure (P+Peq) is mentioned in Appendix XI method. I did hand calculations for H and Wm1, and compared them to the H and Wm1 from flange analysis report. I found Autopipe Flange Check Appendix XI Method does not replace P with P+Peq; therefore my conclusion is Appendix XI Method in Autopipe does not check an NS flange for the requirements of NC-3658 (I do not find an option for checking either NC-3658.1, NC-3658.2 or NC-3658.3 in Autopipe Flange Check). Please advise whether my conclusion is correct.
