Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE, Version(s): 2004, XM, & V8i Environment: N/A Area: Warning Message Subarea: Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Problem The following appears when running entering data into the AutoPIPE model W727-3: Temperature is outside the range specified by the code for allowable What should be done about it? Solution The message is to alert the user that the temperature entered is outside of the range of temperatures specified in the material library. Example: Library name = B3132010 - Material Spec= ASME B622-N10276, Select Tools> library and mimic the settings per the following image: Report viewer will automatically open, search the document for " B66 - N10276 " see the following results Note: the column heading are at the top of the document, with the temperature range in the left most column. The data clearly shows: Temperature Temp Range = -325 to 1000 deg F Allowable Temp Range = -325 to 800 deg F Yield Strength Temp Range= -325 to 1000 deg F In addition, this material is associated with N10276, back inside of AutoPIPE select Tools> Library> using the following settings: Press OK button and again the report viewer will automatically appear, Search for " CS ", with the following results: The data clearly shows: Temperature Temp Range = -325 to 1100 deg F Allowable Temp Range = -325 to 1100 deg F Yield Strength Temp Reange = -325 to 1100 deg Therefore if any dialog in AutoPIPE needs to look up this material per a give temperature the warning: "W727-3: Temperature is outside the range specified by the code for allowable" will be displayed if the temperature is outside of the library range seen above. This is only a warning. However, a new enhancement was added to AutoPIPE V8i 09.02.02.09 and higher, mentioned in the online help under the Pipe Properties dialog, Note #2. AutoPIPE will automatically extrapolate thermal expansion data (including the thermal coefficients for ASME NB) when the operating or ambient temperature is above or below the material library data. Therefore only the thermal expansion is extrapolated outside of the ranges specified in the library. Otherwise the program should use the last data point specified in the library. Also, if a new customized material library has been created and used the warning above may appear if there are problems with the material file. Review the SRC file and compiled errors to determine any problems.
