This question may already have been answered in another post, however, AutoPIPE uses a more accurate thick wall formula for pressure extension calculations for which pressure extension is calculated as: dL = (P*Ap/As)*(L/E)*(1-2v) Where: P = Pressure Ap = Pipe internal pressure area = (pi/4)*di^2 pi = value of pi (3.14...) di = Inside diameter of pipe As = Steel cross sectional area = (pi/4)*(do^2-di^2) do = Pipe outside diameter L = Length of pipe (may not be required when calculating forces only) E = Modulus of elasticity v = Poisson's ratio Once you have the extension value, you can calculate force using: E = Stress/Strain = (F/As)/(dL/L) Where F will give you the force value which should match with AutoPIPE results.
