Forum Post: RE: Stress relaxation in AutoPIPE
Hello Joe, Typically a person would model the piping and support system in an as-built condition. Afterwards, various loads would have been applied to represent different operating conditions and then run an analysis to see how the piping arrangement is affected. For stress relaxation to occur the material would need to have permanently deformed when unloaded, therefore the initial state would not be the same as when first modeled. A second model would need to be created that takes into consideration the new deformed initial state. With regards to self spring, the only option would the cut sort / long command. See AutoPIPE help to see details about this command. Forum Post: Autopipe vessel connect - Nozzle problems
Hi, I'm designing a vertical partially jacketed vessel with a bolted top and six nozzles: D and E connect to chamber 1 only - no problem here. A and B are connected to chamber 2 shell and penetrate chamber 1 shell to the outside - First problem: I get an error "NOZZLE A: jacketed vessel, the reinforcement on the external shell should be checked using another calculation" ie the program does not seem to do something about the nozzle penetrating chamber 1 - What do I do from here to resolve this error? F is a drain and is supposed to connect to the internal flat head of chamber 2 and penetrate the internal flat head of chamber 1 to the outside - here is my second problem: This nozzle shows to be connected to the internal flat head of chamber 1 and not connected to chamber 2 at all. - How do I fix this problem so this nozzle attaches to the internal flat head of chamber 2? V is a vent that is supposed to connect onto the bolted cover of chamber 3 (ie this is a vertical nozzle), but for some reason when I run the calculation it aligns this nozzle horizontally: - How do I fix this problem? Thanks in advance. JanH

Wiki Page: 12. How to add a new spring library to AutoPIPE?
****UNDER CONSTRUCTION **** Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Environment: N/A Area: Library Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version July. 2017 11.00.00.22 Problem: How to add a new Spring library to AutoPIPE? Solution: AutoPIPE’s spring library data can be viewed, update existing data, or add a new custom spring library. A person viewing this files for the first time usually has a confusing expression. This document aims to clear up any confusion about the spring table section of the Equip.LIB and Equip.SRC files. Data for all springs are stored in Equip.LIB file. All modifications are performed in the “SRC” file. However, before a modified “SRC” file can be used within AutoPIPE, it must be compiled into a “LIB” file. Once compiled and placed into a specific folder, only then can the new “LIB” file be used by the application for analysis purposes. Caution , one mistake (extra space, miss-aligned column, wrong value, etc..) in the “SRC” file can cause the modifications to not appear in the application or yield significantly wrong values to be used in AutoPIPE’s calculations. Making modifications to the “SRC” file should be done by someone who is very meticulous and vigilant about maintaining format of each line in the file. If you would like your spring data added to a future version of AutoPIPE, please send your “SRC” file with PDF’s highlighting all values used to compile it from reputable source (i.e. manufacturer, testing lab, etc..). WARNING: 1. A good approach is to always copy an original file and rename it; example original name: Equip.SRC and rename it to: Equip01.SRC (filename must be 8 characters or less). By renaming it you are flagging that it is a customized file. It is also a benefit to have a separate library file when you reloading or upgrading your version of AutoPIPE. When installing the application all default files are installed/overwritten. 2. The moment any "LIB" file does not match the default "LIB" files installed with the application, it is considered a custom module. Being a custom module Bentley cannot be held responsible for the inaccuracy of the new library content. It is your responsibility to verify the functionality of the new library. View Spring data: There is no active command to review Spring data similar to reviewing Material data. Instead all spring data is displayed in AutoPIPE help for review. see help section shown below for details. Where to get SRC file? Some SRC files are stored in the following library file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\AutoPIPE CONNECT v11\Libraries If a specific SRC file is not available, submit a Bentley Service Request asking for the file (ex. Equip.src). Making Modification to SRC file: The SRC file can be opened and modified by any text editing application (ex. MS Word, Ultra Edit, NotePad++). Suggested steps: 1. Gather data required for Spring library Manufacture Name Spring ID Spring Size Spring Range (units = in) Spring Load at minimum Working Rang (units = lbs) Spring Rate (lunits = lbs/in) 2. Copy SRC to a folder location 3. Rename SRC file to xxxxnew.SRC 4. Open SRC file in text editing software 5. Each spring has a start point and end point for the respective data. The start point always coincides with the Manufacture ID row and ends at the next row that starts with an asterisk. For example, using Anvil/Grinnell imaged above, spring data starts on line 22 with Spring ID = GS and ends on Line 63 where there was an "*" shown in column #1. 6. Line #1: Manufacture ID: Starts in column #2, Column Width = 2, Units = None Starting point for an individual spring, only has 2 characters (1st character always matches Manufacture Key on line #2, and 2nd character can be one of the following: S,M,L,X,Y, or Z in order). 7. Line #2: Manufacture Name: Starts in column #2, Column Width = 20, Units = None Contains Manufacture name to be displayed on output report. Range Id: Starts in column #21, Column Width = 12, Units = None Represents a spring's identification to the manufacture that will be displayed in the Figure field on a Support dialog screen. Manufacture Key: Starts in column #34, Column Width = 2 , Units = None Must be a unique value that does not match any other keys in the spring table. Can be letters or numbers. Menu String Starts in column #36, Column Width = 12, Units = None String shown when selecting a Spring manufacture from the drop down listing of a Hanger Analysis command 8. Line #3: Spring Size Starts in column #2, Column Width = 4 , Units = None 9. Line #4...#n Spring Range See Also Bentley AutoPIPE

Wiki Page: 01. Stress isometric drawing are blank or not created when using AutoPIPE Advanced or Nuclear versions, why?
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL Environment: N/A Area: Stress Isometric Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version June 2015 09.06.02.06 Problem: Stress isometric drawing are blank or not created when using AutoPIPE Advanced or Nuclear versions, why? Solution: There could be a number of reasons why this would happen, check the following: Reason #1: There is no piping in the model that was saved as a Stress Isometric. AutoPIPE only creates isometrics based on piping components in the model. Beams are not exported to a Stress Isometric. Reason #2: The wrong version of AutoPIPE is being used. Only AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.02.xx and higher has the Stress Isometric feature incorporated into the application and does not require any additional licenses. However, only by using an AutoPIPE Advance or AutoPIPE Nuclear Edition enabled version of the program can a Stress Isometric be created: The following must be set correctly: Reason #3: There is no piping range selected before starting the Save Stress Isometric command. On the Stress isometric dialog is a setting "Use Selected Range", if this option is enabled and NO highlighted selection has been made in the model than the program will produce a blank drawing. Workaround: a. Make a selection set in the model, and enable this option or b. Disable this feature to export the entire model to a Stress Isometric. Note: If table are missing be sure that the Data Tables option is also checked on this dialog. Reason #4: Unknown Reasons, f or some unknown reason the program is not creating a Stress Isometric. Try this: Following would be an order of investigating this problem 1. Open the directory "C:\ ProgramData\ Bentley\AutoPIPE CONNECT\ isoextractor\ projects\ project01\ stress\ dgn" Note: path may be slightly different for other editions, but try and find the DGN folder. 2. Delete all files from DGN folder location (these are temporary files and do not affect the program behavior) 3. Arrange program windows to view both this Folder location above and use AutoPIPE at the same time 4. In AutoPIPE, launch the stress isometric process from File->Save Stress Isometric command. After starting this process watch the folder, In a moment one should see files temporarily appear and then disappear. a. Did any file appear and disappear in this folder? If Yes, great!! that is what is suppose to happen, check the AutoPIPE model folder location for new drawing files. If No, go to step b below. b. Refresh the folder, are there any file(s) currently in the folder? if Yes, If there are drawing files in this folder some errors have occurred in the model which leads to incorrect naming of files, a wrongly named file may stay in the folder mentioned above and will not be copied back to the model directory. These files in this folder can be opened and checked by an isometric viewer. Regardless, please see steps below to send all files for review. If No, i. Check in the model directory if modelname . PCF file is generated, send file for review II. Check in the model directory if modelname . APISO file is generated, send file for review. Please see the following WIKI page here with instructions to create a AutoPIPE archive APC file, create an Bentley Service Request (SR), attach a ZIP file containing an APC file and other requested files mentioned above, and send for review. Wiki Page: 01. Bentley AutoPIPE Automatic Test Set (ATS)
The Bentley AutoPIPE Acceptance Test Set (ATS) provides the user with a recommended procedure for validating the integrity of an installed AutoPIPE QA & Report subscription service version of the program. Therefore, an ATS is created for AutoPIPE QA & Reporting subscription releases only as a benefit of the Bentley AutoPIPE QA program. Prior to any commercial or Quality Assured and Reporting (QA&R) subscription software release, the accuracy of the AutoPIPE program is verified by the execution of Alpha Tests. These Alpha Tests consist of a matrix of test systems designed to capture key feature attributes related to numeric and functional processing. Each set of test outputs is compared to a prepared set of expected results (i.e. hand calculations, some other well-established computer program, etc.), and evaluated for acceptance. The test matrix has been developed, verified, and documented per the requirements of the Bentley Software Quality Assurance Procedures (D/N# QAP). The ATS includes input files and full documentation covering a sampling of test systems and results documented from the respective Alpha Tests version. Although many program features are verified by the ATS, it should not be construed as being complete for testing of all program functions. Additional tests for specific program features are continually being developed. Until new test sets can be incorporated into this program, the end user (validation tester) must be responsible for creating suitable test systems, in addition to the ones supplied in this program. NOTES: 1. AutoPIPE version installed MUST match the same version of the ATS being used. Otherwise the test is invalid. 2. See FAQ about AutoPIPE's ATS here. 3. See instructions to Install, License, and Run AutoPIPE Automated Test Set here. 4.
