Need Technical Support to fix a problem / answer questions - click here Every problem with AutoPIPE should start by logging a new Case. Each Case has a unique number associated to it to enable easy tracking of a reported issues. When contacting Bentley, any analyst can refer to that number and have immediate access to all the account information and details on all communication between the user, analyst, and development team's responses. Users are warned against contacting Bentley Personnel directly with technical questions as these people can be out of the office and take a while to respond. By logging a Case, the available analyst will become aware of the new problem and take appropriate action. The user will also receive an automated reply that they can reply to with extra information or files (strongly advised to include all models, screenshots, etc. in one ZIP file), and CC additional people as necessary. This workflow guarantees that every issue is properly logged, all parties are well informed, anyone can quicky see at a glance the current status, and all communications can are accurately recorded for future reference. 2. AutoPIPE Nozzle is no longer bundled with AutoPIPE starting from AutoPIPE 2023 release (23.00.00.230). Existing copies of AutoPIPE Nozzle will continue to run provided a valid AutoPIPE Advanced or Nuclear License is a part of the User's entitlements. This change is primarily driven by tightening of Bentley's security controls internally over which products can be released to the market. The security protocols no longer support release of 32 Bit software applications and applications built using older compilers. AutoPIPE Nozzle was compiled using Visual Basic 6.0 IDE, the support for which was discontinued by Microsoft as of April 08, 2008 - making it increasingly difficult to maintain or update the application. The migration path to upgrade the program to a more modern compiler is impractical. A new solution is being considered to replace the functionality provided by AutoPIPE Nozzle. How to install and license AutoPIPE Nozzle with AutoPIPE 2023 and higher: Does the user have an AutoPIPE Advance or Nuclear License: If No , then stop here, in order to use AutoPIPE Nozzle, the user's entitlements must contain a license for AutoPIPE Advance or Nuclear. If Yes, continue below to one of the scenarios Scenario #1: Upgrading from AutoPIPE Connect to AutoPIPE Yearly (ex. 2023..) In this scenario AutoPIPE nozzle is already functioning with AutoPIPE Connect edition. All one needs to do is install the newest version of AutoPIPE Yearly (ex. 2023 or higher), and interface with AutoPIPE Nozzle as always done before with the older versions of AutoPIPE. Again, so long as the user has entitlements to AutoPIPE Advance or Nuclear license, AutoPIPE Nozzle is already installed and functioning. There is no need to install AutoPIPE Nozzle software. Scenario #2: New installation of AutoPIPE Yearly (ex. 2023..) In this scenario, AutoPIPE as never been installed and are now installing AutoPIPE Yearly edition. Follow these instructions: 1. File a Bentley Case mentioning this WIKI and ask for a AutoPIPE 12.08.04.009, last version where AutoPIPE Nozzle was apart of the installer. 2. Provide as many detailed reasons for requesting this software. 3. +++Warning+++ After reading the information at the top of this WIKI, know that Bentley now has a strict internal procedure for processing request of outdated software. This process in no way guarantees the application will be made available to the requestor. 4. The user will be informed of our choice after we've finished our internal process. At that time, more information will be released.

Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE, Version(s): all Area: Warning Message Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Problem: When modeling in AutoPIPE the following is displayed: --------------------------- Warning --------------------------- W731-5: Tees are not permitted in HDPE pipe system as per CC N-755-1. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Why and how to get around it? Solution: Per N-755 code: -3100 SCOPE The design rules of this Section are limited to buried, polyethylene piping systems constructed of straight pipe, three and five-joint mitered elbows, fusion joints, and flanged connections. Therefore, so long as the pipe property being used has "HDPE Material" check-box checked ON. inserting a valve, tees, and other components not listed above are in direct violation of this code. Only solution is to enter a different pipe property that has "HDPE Material" option checked OFF or option does not appear on the dialog. As an option, create a new pipe property using Material = NS (Non-standard), enter all relevant information like Density, Long, Hoop and Shear modulus. For modeling, as AutoPIPE does not have the correct SIF values insert user SIF for all joints to override the default SIF values. In addition, enter user Allowable values as per HDPE pipe. Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): All Area: Modeling Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version Feb. 2016 10.00.00.10 Problem: There are various types of end connections on Vessels and Tanks: Dished only Elliptical 80% Dish 10% Knuckle Reversed Flanged Flanged only Shallow Flanged Hemispherical Toriconical ASME Flanged Standard Flanged Conical How to model piping connected the end of a tank / vessel in AutoPIPE? Solution: The technique is the same regardless of the Vessel's / Tanks's end type head construction. However there are 3 modeling approaches. 1. Consider the Vessel / Tank piping connection as an Flexible / Rigid anchor 2. Take credit for the flexibility in the tank construction, insert a Nozzle component then anchor element 3. Model the entire vessel / tank, add piping to surface with rigid piping See the following procedure and choose one or more techniques to use in your model: 1. Use an Anchor Element Assume the piping connection to the tank / vessel is considered an anchor component. Insert an Anchor element as needed. 2. Insert Nozzle Element and then Anchor element Please see the following AutoPIPE help section: Help > Contents> Contents Tab> Modeling Approaches> Modeling Approaches> Nozzles Hear are 2 examples of connecting piping to a tank / vessel using a nozzle element. 3. Model the entire tank / vessel Please see the following AutoPIPE help section: Help > Contents> Contents Tab> Modeling Approaches> Modeling Approaches> Vessels Note: in order to connect a pipe at B02, follow the techniques in option #2 above (omitting the anchor of course) Examples: 1. Connect multiple pipes to end cap Click here 2. Connect pipe to bottom of tank conical end click here See Also Modeling Vessel / Nozzles Bentley AutoPIPE

I'm working in the TIme History Water Steam Hammer workbook. Page 8 goes over inputting data for the Fluid Transient calculation. I understand where and how to get all data for inputting in this text box, but when the example had "Flow Rate" at -125 lb(mass)/sec I am confuse as to how that number came about. Is it calculated buy major and minor losses for Point A18 to A17, or is it a values given by a pump? Just trying to fully comprehend what is going on.

Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL Area: Results Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version Feb. 2015 09.06.01.10 Problem: On the results grids, all combinations are checked ON and there is data for Displacements, Forces & Moments, Anchors, and Support Tabs but NOT for Code Stress Tab as shown below: Why and how to fix? Solution: There are 2 known reasons why the Results grids may be blank: 1. Under Tools> Combinations> there are no Combinations listed. 2. All piping is set to Rigid Reason #1: No Code Combinaitons With the model open in AutoPIPE select Tools> Model Options> Combinations> Select the : If no combinations are listed then the Code Stress tab of the Results grids will be blank too. There must be at least one or more combinations listed in order to display information in the Results Grids. Reason #2: All Rigid Piping Close the results dialog screen and look at the Look at the model, is there any PURPLE (magenta) colored pipe indicating Rigid properties: As shown in the image above the entire system is covered with Rigid pipe properties. This is further confirmed by looking at the "Rigid Options" tab on the input grid. AutoPIPE does not display stresses for rigid pipe components except Tees (only if Tools> Model Options> Results> Show rigid tee stress is enabled). Delete rigid options over range, Look again at the results Grids with out changing any other settings, Now the code stress tab displays stresses as it should for pipe without rigid properties. Conclusion, if your entire model is covered with rigid properties the Code Stress Results Grids & Output Report will be blank. Note: If this does not resolve the issue, perform the following: 1. With the offending model open in AutoPIPE, analyzed, and Results> Grids displayed. use the mouse and right click on the Windows Start Button and select RUN, enter the following %temp% , A window should have opened to the users Window Temporary Folder. 2. Search for a folder that starts with " AP_ ", example AP_100000. Use the mouse to double left click on the folder to open it up. There will be at least one or more sub-folders, search for the sub-folder with the same name as the model with extra number at the end (example AutoPIPE model name = AP50SR1, temp folder name = AP50SR1_6757) and open it. 3. Search the listing for file with an MDB file extension. example: AP50SR1.MDB 4. The file size should be greater than 0.00 KB. If not, then there is a problem with the model, installation, or Antivirus application running in the background. Another AutoPIPE database test would be to use File> Export> Results Database and Input Database. Again, both these files should be greater than 0.00kb and when open should contain the respective data. 5.Before doing any more investigation in AutoPIPE, suggest to work with your IT department, reboot your computer so no other applications are open, temporarily turn off all Anti-Virus Protection applications, and then start AutoPIPE; test to see if AutoPIPE will operate correctly now. 6. If you continue to have problems after all the above, Reason #3: Problem AutoPIPE program If none of the other reasons resolved the issue consider a complete uninstall and reinstall of the program - click here for instructions . And, if after rebooting the computer, reinstall installing AutoPIPE with a newly downloaded installer, the problem continues, create a Bentley Case , ZIP all files in model's temp folder, and send to Bentley for review. Please also include screen recording or screen shots clearly showing the issue. See Also Bentley AutoPIPE

Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Area: Library Date Logged & Current Version Aug. 2022 12.08.01.010 Problem: How to control number of decimal places used in AutoPIPE's library SRC files? Solution: +++Warning+++ This is not an easy process and needs to be perform by a very meticulous person that can follow these instructions very carefully. In this example, let us concentrate on changing the modulus value (3rd column) from using 2 numbers after the decimal to using 4 numbers after the decimal. SRC file to be updated = B313-18.src Library location = see WIKI here , folder containing " Library files" 1. Copy default SRC file from original location to a new folder on the desk top. 2. Rename file from B313-18.src to Test.scr ( highly suggest to never use the same name as a default material library) 3. Open Test.SRC using any text editor (ex. Notepad++, Ultra EDIT, MS Word) 4. Detail on the SRC file, Material Table format Line 9 definition 1 = 12 = Length of the Material name Field on line 244(ex. CS) 2 = 1 = Number of decimal places in item #1 if a real value. However #1 is not a real value and thus will be ignored. 3 = C = Value can be I (integer), R (real number) , C (character), or X (special character). pertaining to line 244. 4 = (A1,A12) = Fortran format A1 is starting character, where A12 is the next field length or 12 characters (If Integer than use I, if real value than use F, if character value than use A), pertaining to line 244. 5 = 01 = any data related to this material, 1 character values, see image below, pertaining to line 245. 6 = 04 = any data related to this material, 4 integer values, see image below, pertaining to line 245. 7 = 02 = any data related to this material, 2 real values, see image below, pertaining to line 245. Line 10 definition Information here is a description of what is defined by line 9. In this case it is tells that this is a Material Table ID Line 11 definition Similar in nature as line #9 above, it describes the information on line 248 - *MECH and the table from lines 247 - 320 1 = 4 = Length of the Mechanical name on line 246 (ex. *MECH) 2 = 1 = Number of decimal places in item #1 if a real value. However #1 is not a real value and thus will be ignored. 3 = X = Value can be I (integer), R (real number) , C (character), or X (special character). pertaining to line 246. 4 = (A1,A04) = Fortran format A1 is starting character, where A04 is the next field length or 4 characters (If Integer than use I , if real value than use F , if character value than use A ), pertaining to line 246. 5 = 00 = any data related to this material, 0 character values, therefore pertains to no lines. 6 = 00 = any data related to this material, 0 integer values , therefore pertains to no lines. 7 = 222 = any data related to this material, 222 real values, pertaining to lines 20 - 241. Note that the table defines 220 lines, but only 74 of them are actually used in the Matl table, pertaining to lines 247 - 320. Line 12 definition Information here is a description of what is defined by line 11. In this case it is tells that this is the mechanical data. Line 13 to 19 definition Information here describes the format used to define the items on lines 244 and 245 of the material information. Line 20 definition 1 = 20 = The line number in the file. This information is not typical viewed in most word editing software, however as seen here can be very useful when making modifications to any file in AutoPIPE. Therefore highly suggest to use applications like Notepad++, Ultra-edit, etc. 2 = 25 = Locate the Units file defined on the General Model options dialog, open the *.UNT file (ex. AutoPIPE.UNT), in the fourth column locate item #25. These are the units for this field. 3 = 09 = Length of the field, on line 247, columns 1 to 9 4 = 03 = Number of decimal places for value on line 247 5 = 02 = Format for Tools> Library command, Lines to skip-UPDATE, image below 6 = 00 = Format for Tools> Library command, Lines to skip-SCAN, image below 7 = 16 = Format for Tools> Library command, Spaces to skip, image below 8 = 9.1 = Format for Tools> Library command, Write format, width of column and number of decimal places, image below 9 = Temp: = Format for Tools> Library command, Label, name of data in table column Line 21 and 22 definition Similar format as defined on line 20 of the file above. Note Line 21, column #3 = 08, this represents columns 10-17 Line 22, column #3 = 07, this represents columns 18-24 Line 242 definition After the last data entry for the table find additional lines that instruct the application on how to read the lines of data in the table Read format for Major data record on line 245 1X = 1st column is a single space A20 = Charter field that is 20 columns wide 4 (I2, 1X) = 4 groups of integer value that are 2 columns wide with 1 blank space between each integer group F5.1 = Real value that is 5 columns wide, in that 5 spaces, there is room for 1 value after decimal. 2X = 2 columns wide of empty data F7.4 = Real value that is 7 columns wide, in that 7 spaces, there is room for 4 values after decimal. Line 243 definition After the last data entry for the table find additional lines that instruct the application on how to read the lines of data in the table Read format for Minor data records from lines 247 - 320 1X = 1st column is a single space F6.0 = Real value that is 6 columns wide, in that 6 spaces, there is room for 0 values after decimal. 1X = 1 column wide of empty data F6.3 = Real value that is 6 columns wide, in that 6 spaces, there is room for 3 values after decimal. 3X = 1 columns wide of empty data F6.2 = Real value that is 6 columns wide, in that 6 spaces, there is room for 2 values after decimal. Notes: 1. Most of the table definitions lines 9 to 241 are mostly used when enabling the Library (Tools > Tools > Library) command to display, scan, print library data. 2. Major and Minor data records line, ex. 242 and 243 are used by the program to read the library data table for each material. 3. the program will ignore values that are not correctly formatted or are outside of the field width. Example: a. In minor data above. if value was -2.601, the 0.001 would be ignored because it is outside of the field width b. In minor data above. if value was -2.601, with the enter value in the field with, the 0.001 would be read because the field is defined for 6 columns wide to include 3 decimal values. 5. Find and replace as indicated below Find - "15 07 02 00 01 04 7.3 Mod:" Replace - "15 07 03 00 01 04 7.3 Mod:" Note : should replace 74 times 6. Modify Minor data records line at the end of the table, ex. line #243. Find - (1X,F6.0,1X,F6.3,3X,F6.2) Replace - (1X,F6.0,1X,F6.3,3X,F7.3) 7. Update Each material Id and each respective row with modulus values according to the new format. maintain the decimal location, 7 columns wide, and with 3 values after the decimal. 8. Compile the library into a LIB file, place the library in the folder with all the other libraries, restart AutoPIPE, select the library from the material drop down listing, and test all the values returned are correct. Again,. +++Warning+++ Remember, being a custom library, Bentley cannot be held responsible for the inaccuracy of the new library content. It is your responsibility to verify the following information: a. Verification of data in the SRC file b. Verification of data in the Press / Temp. dialog c. Verification of relevant data in the Pipe Properties or any dialog referenced by the updated library Additional questions and answer: Question 1: In order to increase the modulus value to 3 numbers after the decimal, in the original file there is no 24 th column for lines 247 to 320 as there is no space after 23 rd column .There is “Enter” for Next line. Should we create 24 th column by giving space bar or 0, then “Enter” for next line? Answer: If not explicitly explained, once a filed is defined, the number can exist anywhere within its bounds and the program only reads what has been defined. Example: given that the field has 9 character defined with 2 number after decimals and ... Line 20 reads, 25 09 03 01 00 16 9.1 Temp: Line 243 reads, (1X,F6.2,1X,F6.3,3X,F7.3) Is it correct to assume that all of the following numbers are correctly entered and the whole number on each line will be read by the program? If you answered Yes , you are wrong. If answered No , your are somewhat correct. But let us look at the details. As mentioned, the number can exist anywhere within its bounds and the program only reads what has been defined. Table was defined by lines 20 and 243 as indicated above. From line 20 the field is defined as 9 characters wide for the Library print/scan command. Therefore any number within the bounds of columns 1-9 will be printed / scan. Any value exceeding this length will be truncated back to 9 characters in the first 9 columns. However line 243 informs us that the program will read, the 1st column as a blank character, and the next 6 columns with 2 number after decimal. Or column 1 is not read / blank, and only read columns 2-7. The decimal can be in any of these 6 column and only 2 numbers after the decimal will be read while the other values will be truncated. So what value does the program read from each row: Row 2 = 432.1 (why, anything beyond column 7 is truncated) Row 3 = 432.1 (why, anything beyond column 7 is truncated) Row 4 = 432 (why, anything beyond column 7 is truncated) Row 5 = 432 (why, anything beyond column 7 is truncated) Row 6 = 432.12 (why, anything beyond column 7 is truncated) Row 7 = 32.12 (column 1 is not read / blank, value is in the defined 6 columns and only 2 number after decimal are read) Back to the original question, Should we create 24 th column to make room for a 3rd number after the decimal ? Most important, take a moment to layout the line as defined to clearly understand the defined fields and what is read by the program Lines 20 = 25 09 03 01 00 16 9.1 Temp: Lines 21 = 24 08 03 00 00 02 8.3 Exp: Lines 22 = 15 07 03 00 01 04 7.3 Mod: Line 243 = (1X,F6.0,1X,F6.3,3X,F7.3) There are 2 correct answer here. 1. As indicated above, one could move the entire value over 1 column and enter another number with out changing the row length or 2. Insert a 3rd value after the decimal before the row return. Question 2 : Is the position of the decimal point fixed for Temp(7 th ), Exp(12 th ) and Modulus(21) in the line 247 to 320? Answer: No. refer to Question / Answer #1 above. The decimal value can occur at any time with in the defined field. See Also Libraries - AutoPIPE Bentley AutoPIPE

Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Area: Crash Date Logged & Current Version Aug. 2023 23.00.00.230 Problem: When modifying Material Library selection on General Model Options AutoPIPE crashes, and message inside of log file reads: " IORREA: File read error", why? Solution: As of Aug 2023, there is only one reported issue of this occurring. The issue was directly related to customize material library file. The user tried extending the material library MATL data table beyond the currently limits of that library. There is a hard limitation of 231 cells in the MATL data tables for each material. See the following image, the sum of all the data cells in a default library was 229, however the customize material library tried to extend the table a total number of 274 ( >231) cells. Again, at this time, the hard table size is 231. Once the customize library Matl data tables were reduced below 229, there was no issues of using the customize library. Answer: If a version is missing from the available download listing, this means that it has been Archived. A newer version of the software is now available, and the older, outdated software links are removed from the listing. Why would a user / company prefer to use an older version of an application instead of taking advantage of the newest version that includes new enhancements (see release notes) and fixes to known issues ? AutoPIPE's latest version has the ability to open all models created by older versions, and the ability to save models back to a previous version format. In addition, the newest version of the software includes the most recent Piping Code updates and most of the legacy code years that may be required by project documentation to analyze models. Project documentation should list the piping code required for analysis instead of the software version number. Users are urged to review BENTLEY's SUPPORT POLICY for the impact on using older software. In addition, b y using previous versions, users may be exposed to risks related to security vulnerabilities present in the software. By distributing previous versions of the software, Bentley may be exposed to risks related to legal compliance (e.g., use of technologies that Bentley no longer licenses) and to application security. Therefore, distributing previous versions is regarded as an exceptional circumstance and is strictly controlled to ensure liability mitigation and record keeping practices. If you wish to still pursue using the older version, please use the following procedure: a. Submit a Bentley Case requesting a particular version (eight-digit number). Don't forget to include a thorough explanation of your inability to use the most recent program version (explanation should be more than just project requirements, what advantage does the older software have over the latest version?). b. Bentley Technical Support will assess the request for obsolete software and adhere to our corporate procedures. c. Once the internal process and evaluation are complete, the user will be advised of the management's decision to distribute the outdated software.
