Wiki Page: Modeling Vessel / Tank on supported legs
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Area: Modeling Date Logged & Current Version Aug 2023 23.00.00.230 Example: Model piping arrangement: There are multiple options to model connected piping to a Vessel / Tank surface, here is one modeling approach. See WIKI here for other modeling approaches Step 1. Insert Vessel / Tank Step 2. Insert conical portion of Vessel / Tank Step 3. Insert piping arrangement connected to nozzle at bottom of Conical section. Also recommend to insert a User SIF at the surface of the nozzle connection to the end cap. What value should be used, may need to hand calculate this value or use another software to provide that information, this would not be a typical code calculated SIF value. Optional : Report Allowable forces and Moments Insert reference points at nozzle connection to end cap to report loads that exceed allowable forces and moments. Step 4. Note, the legs are attached to the vessel / tank starting at the intersection of the main body to conical portion. Make this node point the active node. Step 5. Insert Beam Properties that matches that of the steel used for the legs. Insert temporary beam from the center of the Vessel / Tank to the outside surface of the tank Step 6. Insert temporary beam from surface of the Vessel / Tank to the center of the beam section being modeled for the vertical legs. Document total length from center of Vessel / Tank to center of vertical legs. Step 7. Insert vertical beam leg and remove previous temporary beams made in steps above. Step 8. Insert remaining vertical legs equally spaced around the Vessel / Tank. Step 9. Rotate legs 45 deg about the vertical axis of the Vessel / Tank. Step 9. Rotate legs 45 deg about the vertical axis of the Vessel / Tank. See Also Model piping connected the end of a tank / vessel Bentley AutoPIPE

Wiki Page: 02. Why are Code stress results different after adding an extra node point to pipe run / bend in an AutoPIPE model?
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Area: Report Date Logged & Current Version Dec. 2017 11.02.00.08 Problem: Why does the stress results change after adding just 1 extra node point on a bend or run of pipe? Example: When using the mid-point option on a bend noticed a significant stress difference. Why? or Adding node point(s) in pipe run Solution: Yes, the results may change by adding one or more node points to the model. One should remember general information of AutoPIPE ( see WIKI here ): Bentley AutoPIPE like all other stress programs uses 1-D finite elements which use simple Beam element center-line based theory, also known as the stiffness or displacement method, to mathematically model the piping system in three dimensional space. The system is formulated into a set of linear equations, describing the system characteristics at each degree of freedom (DOF). However, AutoPIPE differs from other applications because each point (e.g., piping, soil, beam, etc.) in an AutoPIPE modeled system has six (6) degrees of freedom. The exact formulation of these equations and their solution depends on the type of loading being investigated. For Example, AutoPIPE uses a form of Hook's law to calculate displacements and reaction forces based on pipe/anchor stiffness and the applied load See example model below. AutoPIPE will analyze the entire model and report results at node points. By Adding / removing node points to the model will calculate a new set of results, of which the maximum could now be higher than originally reported. Example, after looking at the displacement animation of this model imaged above, most stress engineers would surmise that stresses would be higher than currently reported between A02 and A03. Correct, after adding a node point at the center between A02 and A03, the reported stresses was found to be 138112 psi Reasons why adding/removing Node points affects results: a. All components modeled have their Mass lumped at node points, thus adding / removing node points will change the stiffness matrix of the model and ultimately the results. b. For Dynamic Analysis, mass discretization will evenly distribute mass between node points instead of lumping. Consider using "Mass points per span" setting option on the Edit model options dialog (for complete details see help on this feature). c. If soil properties are applied over the length where node points are to be added, these additional soil spring will aid in supporting the pipe which directly affect pipe displacement and stresses. d. Non-Linear analysis is an iterative approach that relies heavily on Displacement, Force, and Friction tolerance settings to calculate results. Any changes in the model, like adding / removing node point may affect which iterative point was suitable to satisfy the equation will generate different results than the previous calculated values. Conclusion, yes, adding/removing node points in a model can change the results. See Also "Code Compliance" sub-report using Results> Output Report Bentley AutoPIPE

Wiki Page: - AutoPIPE Nozzle Removal from AutoPIPE 2023 and higher installer
AutoPIPE Nozzle is no longer bundled with AutoPIPE starting from AutoPIPE 2023 release (23.00.00.230). Existing copies of AutoPIPE Nozzle will continue to run provided a valid AutoPIPE Advanced or Nuclear License is a part of the User's entitlements. This change is primarily driven by tightening of Bentley's security over which products can be released to the market. The security protocols no longer support release of 32 Bit software applications and applications built using older compilers. AutoPIPE Nozzle was compiled using Visual Basic 6.0 IDE, the support for which was discontinued by Microsoft as of April 08, 2008 - making it increasingly difficult to maintain or update the application. The migration path to upgrade the program to a more modern compiler was impractical. A new solution is being considered to replace the functionality provided by AutoPIPE Nozzle. Check back as more information will be released and posted here. Please continue to log defects and feature requests using Bentley Cases and IDEAs during the development of a new solution. However, there will be no more development on AutoPIPE Nozzle, and technical support will be limited. How to install and license AutoPIPE Nozzle with AutoPIPE 2023 and higher: Does the user have an AutoPIPE Advance or Nuclear License: If No , then stop here, in order to use AutoPIPE Nozzle, the user's entitlements must contain a license for AutoPIPE Advance or Nuclear. If Yes, continue below to one of the scenarios Scenario #1: Upgrading from AutoPIPE Connect to AutoPIPE Yearly (ex. 2023..) In this case, the AutoPIPE nozzle should already be installed and operational with the AutoPIPE Connect edition. All that is required, install the most recent version of AutoPIPE Yearly (ex. 2023 or higher). AutoPIPE Yearly will communicate with AutoPIPE Nozzle as with previous versions of AutoPIPE. Again, so long as the user has entitlements to AutoPIPE Advance or Nuclear license, AutoPIPE Nozzle is already installed and will continue to function when called upon. There is no need to install AutoPIPE Nozzle software again. Scenario #2: New installation of AutoPIPE Yearly (ex. 2023..) A previous version of AutoPIPE or AutoPIPE Nozzle has never been installed and are now installing AutoPIPE Yearly edition. Follow these instructions: 1. File a Bentley Case mentioning this WIKI and ask for an installer of AutoPIPE 12.08.04.009, last version where AutoPIPE Nozzle was apart of the installer. 2. Provide as many detailed reasons for requesting this software. +++Warning+++ After reading the information at the top of this WIKI, know that Bentley now has a strict internal procedure for processing request of outdated software. This process in no way guarantees the application will be made available to the requestor. 3. After we've finished our internal process, the user will be informed of our decision to send a link for the outdated software. If No, please check back as more information will be released and posted here. If Yes, a link will be sent for the requestor to download and install the outdated software to be used with AutoPIPE Advanced or AutoPIPE Nuclear Entitlements.
