Answer: In older version v43.01.01.011, we were able to enter soil class as well as other parameters like Ra, Tb, Tc, Td. But in version v44.00.00.111 we could either select the soil class or other parameters. Once we choose soil class other parameters will get blocked to edit and will be taken as per selected soil class. In case you want to enter the Ra, Rm, Tb, Tc, & Td, keep the soil class cell blank then you can edit those parameters. It depends on which method you want to proceed, you can select the soil class or keep the soil class blank and enter the other parameters. Wiki Page: 04. Support report indicates a load on a support who's open gaps never closed during an AutoPIPE Analysis, so why is there a load on the support in open gap direction?
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL Area: Report Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version June 2015 09.06.02.06 Problem: When reviewing the load on a gaped support, there is a load in the same direction as a large gap. The pipe never closes the gap, so why is there a load on the support in that direction? Solution: If you are running a non-linear analysis, 9 times out of 10 the answer is due 1 of 3 reasons: Nonlinear analysis, Friction, or Dynamic analysis rules. 1. Nonlinear analysis If the model has gaps, friction, or soil settings configured in the model, be sure that the Analysis set is running as a Non-Linear Analysis. If the analysis set is analyzed as a linear analysis, then all gaps. friction, and soil settings are ignored. Please review AutoPIPE help for details on Linear analysis vs Non-linear analysis. 2. Load sequence Problem is directly with Load sequencing (see WIKI here ). Essentially do not consider individual load cases results (ex. Gr, T1, W1, E1, etc..), only consider the operating conditions (GrT1P1, GrE1, GrT1W1, etc...). Only consider the individual load case when trying to understand Why the results of an operating condition are what they are. 3. Friction Another reason for forces in gapped direction would be directly attributed to Friction. Perform the following test: for each support in question change the Friction to 0.00 for no friction. Now re-run the analysis and check the results. The force should now be removed in the gapped direction. Why you ask? because one or more gaps may have closed. Example: guide support with the following gap settings: Stiffness = Rigid Gap Up = 100 Gap Down = 0.00 Gap Left and Right = 0.1 Friction = 0.3 Look at the Support output report for all operating condition (ex. GrT1P1E1) Force: fx = 944 (axial), fy = 250 (up), fz = 2181 (left) Movement in local coordinate: dx = 1.63 (axial), dy = 0.94 (up), dz = 0.1 (left) Because the left gap on the support closed there is a friction force as the pipe is moving up. However, when performing the test above, there is no friction and thus free to move up therefore force in the up direction would then be 0.00 as expected. 4. Dynamic analysis rules Remember that all dynamic analysis depend on Modal Analysis results and are subject to the rules of performing a Modal Analysis. Note: if using a guide support where 2 opposite directions have large gap settings. Highly suggest to model using an Incline support instead of a Guide support. Wiki Page: PCF Translator Issues for AutoPIPE
Notes: A. For manual and details on the PCF translator file structure and mappings, see wiki here : B. The PCF translator can import almost any type of PCF file created by other 3D cad applications (i.e. SmartPLANT, CADworx, SoildWorks, AutoDesk Inventor Professional ( using the Tubing and Piping module , Autodesk 2015 help ), Catia, Autodesk Plant3D, etc..). Start the PCF translator by using one of the following: 1. From with in AutoPIPE, select File> Import> choose any one that has (PCF) at the end of the name. 2. Select Start> Bentley Engineering> AutoPIPE Translator> PCF translator> PCF translator program After the PCF translator application opens, see online help for details about the dialog. C. PCF file does not store multiple Pressure or Temperature settings, to be sure library data is retrieved for pipe properties, thermal expansion, hot modulus, hot allowable, etc, after importing a model suggest the following steps: select Tools> Model Options> General change Ambient temperature to a different setting, press OK button, after the model data has been refreshed, reset Ambient temperature back to the original setting. D. Per "SmartPlantToAutoPIPETranslator_UserReference.pdf" Rev.05, Section 6, the PCF translator can be run from the command line. However, the information was added to the PDF file before the actual functionality was added to the program. As an official statement, the PCF translator cannot be run from the command or be apart of the Automated System Processing feature in AutoPIPE. See AutoPIPE on-line help "Automated System Processing" for parameter switches supported by the program. Also, see AutoPIPE V8i 9.6 and higher Analysis Batch File Generator. E. In PCF file we cannot say from where segments starts and ends. PCF Translator automatically connects components on coordinates bases and create segments of those components which are connected to each other. Another words, PCF Translator connects components on coordinates base not on sequential order specified in PCF file. F. IF PCF translator was installed manually, delete the following folder if available: C:\Users\profilename\AppData\Roaming\Bentley\PCF Translator Then restart the application, this folder will automatically be refreshed with the new files per the version just installed. G. As of September 2023, PCF translator does not import beam / frame components. H. Wiki Page: E514-2: Unable to retrieve Time History Load and Time History files - error message in AutoPIPE
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): 2004, XM, V8i, CONNECT; Area: Error Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version Nov. 2015 10.00.00.10 Problem: The following appears when trying to run an analysis in AutoPIPE, --------------------------- Error --------------------------- E514-2: Unable to retrieve Time History Load and Time History files. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Why and how to avoid? Solution: The reason for this dialog is because a particular file that is required by the program is missing from the folder where the model is located. Scenario #1: Create a new folder on the desktop and copy the following AutoPIPE Example model (AP50SR1.DAT) to this folder. Run the Analysis, the dialog above will appear. Question, Why? Answer, The CO2.THL file required for running the Time history analysis is missing, see the following screen shot: Upon further inspection, find that the C02.THL file is not located in the model's folder. A THL file is automatically created after running the Load> Steam Relief, Fluid Transient Analysis, or manually created by the user. In this example above the C02.THL file would have been created after running the Steam Relief utility as directed by the "Executing Steam Relief Example (ap50sr1)" document in AutoPIPE help pages. By skipping this step and directly analyzing the model the error dialog above was displayed. Avoidance Be sure to check that all the file required to run the analysis are available in the folder. If some files are found to be missing, command AutoPIPE to automatically create them, manually create them, or copy from another project into this folder. Only after all files are present and properly formatted can the analysis be completed without showing the error screen above. Scenario #2: Open model that has Fluid transient loads THL and THP files configured, save the file to an NTL, move only the NTL file to a new folder location, and open the NTL file. Notice that this error message, E514-2, will appear. Question: Why? Answer: Because there is no NTL Batch command that will rerun the Fluid transient feature to regenerate the missing THL and THP files required to run the Time history dynamic analysis, per the NTL SOLV THST command card. Avoidance Folder where the NTL file is opened from must have the required file(s) necessary to run the various Batch commands mentioned in the NTL file. In this scenario, place the correct THL and THP files in the same folder as the NTL being opened. Scenario #3: Open an model generated by an older version of AutoPIPE, the message above may appear. Question: Why? Answer: The TIH file is now known as the "THP" file in AutoPIPE versions 11.2 and higher. As a result, the application won't be able to locate the THP and displays the above notice to the user when opening an older model from an earlier version. Avoidance Open the TIH file using any text editor. Next open an AutoPIPE model, use the original TIH file information to recreate a new THP within AutoPIPE See Also Error Messages displayed in AutoPIPE Bentley AutoPIPE

Wiki Page: Q. What is the meaning of Bentley Case Priority?
Answer: Priority must be chosen for a Bentley case. The following will explain each setting's significance: Critical: Complete loss of service or production down situations where no workaround exists. Incidents which have a critical impact on the business's ability to maintain operations and demand an immediate response. The production down incident affect multiple locations or high number of users in a location. High: Severe loss of functionality or performance. Major feature/product failure, where short-term workaround may be available; operation can continue in a restricted fashion. The application is usable but severely limited. Risk of impacting the deadline. A high number of users unable to perform their functions. Medium: Incidents that cause non-critical product features to malfunction consistently. Major feature/product failure where an acceptable workaround is available. Problems with a business function in the software, which causes severe inconvenience to users. Low: Incidents that do not compromise production or for which a suitable workaround has been identified. Operational questions, informational requests. Limited impact and urgency; work progress not directly impacted. A Priority selection may be changed by Bentley technical support group to be more in lines with the above definitions.

Wiki Page: "Use corroded thickness in all analyses" model options, edit settings for an AutoPIPE model
Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Environment: N/A Area: Settings Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group Date Logged & Current Version March. 2017 11.00.00.22 Problem: How does "Use corroded thickness in all analysis" on Edit Model options dialog different from "Use nominal thickness" on Results Model Options dialog? Solution: The Edit Model Option "Use corroded thickness in all analysis" setting is often confused with Results Model Option "Use Nominal Thickness" setting. These are 2 complete different settings that affect the application in different ways. " Use corroded thickness in analysis " One of the first analysis performed by AutoPIPE is in an area of the program referred to as the pre-processor. The program will break up the entire model into a number of stiffness equations that are all solved simultaneously with matrices. This setting will control which wall thickness is used in solving these matrices for calculating displacement, forces, and moment . Enabling this setting may lower forces and moments, however most piping codes insist on using nominal thickness for the flexibility analysis. After changing this setting, the model should be re-analyzed. " Use nominal thickness " This setting does not affect the calculations of moments. The input in this field determines which pipe wall thickness value is used in stress calculations in the Post processor. After the Force and Moments have been computed, the stress are calculated. See AutoPIPE help for complete details on these settings. See Also Tools> Model Options> Edit settings Bentley AutoPIPE

I am working on a steam line with an adjacent condensate and boiler feed line. Each line have different operating temperatures and pressures. The steam line is under B31.1 while condensate, and boiler feed is under B31.4. I ran 3 independent static analysis per each individual line for their respective code. What I am trying to determine is the displacement of the three lines under their respective operating conditions as one system, and if there is any interferrence between any of the lines. What is the best way to go about this? Thank you, Jeff
