Forum Post: RE: Concrete Anchor Modelling at Pipe Bend

Hello Niko, The first thing is to be aware of the stiffness settings between an anchors and supports. In AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.10, under Tools> Edit> the last 2 rows of settings are Supports & Anchors Rigid Stiffness values. These settings can be changed by the user as needed. The major difference between an anchor and a guide support is that an Anchor controls 6 DOF while an Guide support controls 2 DOF. Therefore there would be a difference in the results between details A,B,C vs detail D. Detail B vs Detail C - these are essential the same. The piping results outside of the bend area (i.e. beyond the anchors) would be the same. Inserting a Rigid member as shown in detail B should not affect the results nor provide you stress. Keep in mind that AutoPIPE does not provide stress results for any other rigid area locations besides Tees (see online help section for the following setting, Tools> Model Options> Results> Show rigid tee stress). Detail A vs Detail B. - I would expect the results to be different. The default setting for Rigid pipe stiffness is (Tools> Model Options> Edit> Rigid stiffness factor) a stiffness factor to be applied to the material elastic modulus for all components that are set to rigid. However, the anchor stiffness is set to 0.10000E+11 lb/in (1750999936. N/mm) (by default). Because of these differences the calculated results should not be the same.
