Answer: As of June 2021, current list of ATS or QA versions available for AutoPIPE are: Edition Version Number AutoPIPE CONNECT v.12.08.02.40 v.12.04.00.14 v.12.00.00.16 v.11.01.00.24 v.10.01.00.09 AutoPIPE V8i v.09.06.01.11 v.09.05.01.02 v.09.05.01.05 v.09.04.01.05 v.09.03.02.05 v.09.02.03.02 v.09.01.01.02 AutoPIPE XM v.09.00.00.08 v.08.09.00.14 AutoPIPE 2004 v.08.06.00.12 As one can see, not every version of AutoPIPE has an ATS created. The ATS may take 1-3 months after a release of a new version of AutoPIPE to before being released. Check AutoPIPE's Help> AutoPIPE News RSS news feed for notification. One perk about the QA&R program, all QA&R user are automatically notified. Non-QA users: Non-QA accounts are not entitled to the full AutoPIPE QA ATS, however please see AutoPIPE help for information on ITS.

Wiki Page: Q. Reference for equations and mathcads / hand calculations stated in AutoPIPE QA ATS documentation

I am trying to locate the reference information for the equations used to validate the AutoPIPE software as stated in the ATS documentation. "THEORY: Refer to the AutoPIPE Reference Information in the AutoPIPE Online Help, for details on the equations used by AutoPIPE for calculation of stresses." Furthermore can you send me the copies of the Mathcad's sheets showing the hand calculations for a specific model? Answer: Typically, the reference equations can be found at the following AutoPIPE help section: Help > Contents> Contents Tab> Reference Information> Code Compliance Calculations> select the correct piping code. The overall objective of this ATS is to provide a means of validation for the AutoPIPE computer program to analyze and produce accurate results for a variety of piping models as installed in a specific operating environment. The accuracy of AutoPIPE is verified by Bentley during execution of Alpha Tests, which are performed prior to any Commercial or Quality Assured release. Alpha Tests consist of a matrix of test systems designed to capture key feature attributes related to numeric and functional processing. Each set of test outputs is compared to a prepared set of expected results (i.e. Mathcad's, hand calculations, some other well established computer program etc.), and evaluated for acceptance. Only those people who are part of the QA&R program have a right to access Bentley's facility in Walnut Creek, CA for the purpose of QA audits or inspection to verify the implementation of our quality assurance program. Only during the audit can QA&R user have access to all the references mentioned above.

Wiki Page: Q. Why are some models (ex.QA 262-6.dat) are not listed in the Test Set Execution Status Matrix of the AutoPIPE ATS document (ap_ats.pdf)?

$

0
Answer: In the AutoPIPE ATS document (ap_ats.pdf), just before "Description of Acceptance Test Systems", is a note that reads" " * These test sets are not part of the published Acceptance Test Set Manual." The ap_ats.pdf lists all the models that are part of our QA&R testing. However, not all these models are available in the ATS. So any models listed in the "Test Feature Cross Reference" part of the document with an " * " (asterisk) next to the model name is not available in the Automatic test set. Accounts that are signed up as Q&AR have an extra privilege to visit the CAE group facility in Walnut Creek, CA. to review all of AutoPIPE's models, documents, and calculations. This is by appointment only. Please see the following WIKI site about QA&R subscription details .

Wiki Page: Q. The ATS Test Features Cross Reference includes many entries with asterisks with a note at the end indicating that these test features are not part of the published ATS manual. Are these non-included test features available to users?

$

0
Answer: Please note the manual indicates the following: " * These test sets are not part of the published Acceptance Test Set Manual." The ATS is performed to verify the results of the application for a given piping model subjected to program features, load conditions, and settings. In order to reduce the amount of time required to run the actually ATS analysis, and the overall size of the ATS document (i.e. ap_ats.doc). Certain models (i.e. marked with an " * " asterisk) were purposefully left out of the ATS document available to the general public. However, know that the CAE development testing includes the entire listing of models mentioned in the Acceptance Test Set. The results of these test are available for viewing to only QA&R subscribers at the Bentley Office in California. AutoPIPE is installed with all the features listed in the online help , it is the selected edition of the program that controls what features are available to the user. To answer the question directly, Yes, all the features tested in the ATS are available in the program, however you need to have the correct edition enable / licensed to use a specific feature reserved for that edition.

Solution: Notes: 1. Because of the significant amount of resources, not all versions of AutoPIPE are going to have an company ATS created . It may take 2-6 weeks after an AutoPIPE version is release before an ATS is available. The QA manager will ship a QA DVD containing all the software: AutoPIPE versions, ATS, etc.. to the designated person on your QA contract. 2. Each release of an ATS version is specifically created for a specific version of AutoPIPE. Therefore, the ATS software version must match the AutoPIPE software version. Do NOT mix the versions of these applications as it will void the test results and may ultimately fail to run properly.. 3. IF you are part of the QA&R program files cannot be downloaded from the internet. All applications must be installed from the media (i.e. CD, DVD) that was sent to your by the Bentley QA Manager. Forum Post: RE: Release for hanger selection

Greetings, My humble apology, however this question is outside the scope for AutoPIPE TSG. Please see WIKI here for what is TSG. We should not be commenting on actual construction / installation questions. Regardless, your understanding of "release for hanger selection" is correct. As mentioned in AutoPIPE help: Release for hanger selection: An anchor may be released in any direction for the gravity load case during the hanger design process. This allows a hanger near the anchor to be designed such that the hanger supports the gravity load. For example, this approach is often used to ensure that nozzles are relieved of any gravity loads. With that said, as an unofficial comment, I have personally installed many of springs hangers. I can tell you that at times of installation one may need to adjust the spring in order to cut the bands, pull the blocks, and make the final adjustment as needed. Some values might be missing. Why and how to avoid? Solution: In one particular case, t he allowable material stress is gone. The model was opened and saved with version 43.01 and then opened and saved with a previous version (42.04). A warning message indicated that this operation can lead to the loss of data because backward compatibility is not supported, there is a risk of corruption of the model, hence the loss of the admissible stresses of the materials. To repair the model, one must reset the materials: select a different material revision year, validate (OK button), reopen the dialog box and return to the previous material revision date. Wiki Page: 06. Can different support groups access a scaled version of the RS without counting toward the limit of 50 RS per AutoPIPE model?

Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Area: Loads Date Logged & Current Version Aug 2022 12.08.01.010 Problem: "Once a RS is assigned to the program, can different support groups access a scaled version of the RS without counting toward the limit of 50 RS per model? As an example: This would mean that support group 1 could be assigned to some RS1 (leaving 49 more RS definitions open) and support group 2 could be assigned to 0.9 x RS1 using the Response Spectra input box in the program. In this way, two support groups access one response spectra definition." Solution: The answer to this is yes. As an example: Input data for a response spectrum. The response spectrum defines the ground motion response of the earthquake and will be assigned globally to all points in the model in a specific direction, by the user. BUT it can also be scaled (see below). Insert support groups. Select point(s) to be included in a support group. The support(s) in this group will have the same response spectrum and scaling applied. There is a limit of 20 support groups per SAM case. There is a limit of 10 SAM cases. Click Insert > SAM/MSRS Support Group. Repeat for other support group assignments. Create Response Spectrum case. Click Analysis > Dynamic Analysis. Click New. Check on MSRS and SAM case. Here you are limited to a single SAM case for each response spectrum case. So you can only include the 20 support groups of a single SAM case in a single Response Spectrum case. Then click Define. Define the response spectrum to be applied to each support group in each direction. Keep in mind that you can scale these here. As an example, below NRCH2 has a factor of 1 applied for Support Group 1 but a factor of 1.5 for Support Group 4. This is the process but as you can see, you are still limited to 20 support groups being considered in a single response spectrum load case. Generally, each individual support is not considered as a single support group. Rather, we commonly see supports attached to the same floor or having some commonality grouped. So that is an option. Another option to expand this number is to create additional SAM cases (each with up to 20 support groups). And you can set up additional Response Spectrum Load Cases with all settings the same but including SAM Case S2 with R2, S3 with R3, etc. Then the results of these could be combined to get to a total system response. Example below: My R1 case is including all Support Groups of S1. I have broken this out into R2 through R5, each considering a single support group. I will combined the results once it is analyzed. After analysis, in the Load Combination dialog on the Code Combination tab, I see my Sus. R1{1} combination which will give me my total response. I want to match that by combining my R2 through R5 cases. So first I create a Total R case using SRSS because that is how the groups are being combined in the single R1 load case (can be seen in the Dynamic Analysis dialog above). Then I combine this with Sustained. When I review the code stress results in the Result Grid, we see these are matching. So in theory, I could have 10 SAM Cases X 20 Support Groups X 50 Response Spectrum Load Cases = 10,000 response spectrum loads applied. Applies To Product(s): AutoPIPE Version(s): ALL; Area: Modeling Date Logged & Current Version Dec 2022 12.08.03.015 Problem: How to model a support that has a breakaway force and then free to move using AutoPIPE? Example U-bolt that is tightened down on the pipe, when axial load sufficiently overcomes the friction load which was calculated to be 1000 N, the pipe will spring / slip / free to move in the axial direction. Solution: Easy, AutoPIPE has a support that can be configured to accommodate multiple types of scenarios such as this, see AutoPIPE help for Incline support, Ultimate Force Gap. Please take the time to read about "Understanding Ultimate Force Gap Supports" for better understanding on the versatility and potential modeling scenarios with an incline support. In this case, one would model this scenario using 2 supports: 1. Guide Support - This support will resist lateral and vertical movement. Model a guide support stiffness and gaps as needed, while Friction should be set to 0.00. 2. Incline Support - The axial movement characteristics will be modeled with this support. Note the settings on the incline dialog above. Recall that the breakaway force was calculate to be 1000 N. Therefore, breakaway was set to 1000 N. After reaching breakaway, the pipe is free to move during Phase 1 and Phase 2, thus K1 and K2 resistance, both forward and back stiffness's, are set to 0.00 in the global axis direction (ex. Global X). One could have modeled a Phase K1 distance, use any value, but not needed because the resistance is free for both K1 and K2 ranges. Results When enabling the Ultimate Force Gap, the program will prevent any movement in the direction of the restraint until a breakaway force value specified by the user is achieved. Once the breakaway force value is achieved in the positive or negative direction, the support exerts the first stiffness value (K1) specified by the user until the K1 phase is travelled. Once the K1 phase is travelled, the support exerts the second stiffness value (K2) specified by the user. If the breakaway force is not attained in this case, the load that arises on the Incline support will range from 0.00 to 1000 N. If a force has built up to overcome the breaking away force, that load will be transferred onto the K1 Spring. Since the K1 stiffness is free (0 N/mm), the point slips or springs with out consuming any force. The load on the support is reduced to 0.00 N as a result. In order to move again once this point rests, it must overcome breakaway force. Think of it this way, the break away force is like a shackle, once the forces reaches the breaking point of the shackle, it breaks. The breaking force dissipates as it is now free to move, no stiffness settings. Once the pipe reaches equilibrium, the shackle is reapplied and the process will repeat.
